PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Brock Nasri (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jong Bak (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Brock Nasri! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 7 - 0, fighting out of London, Jong Bak! The judges for this bout are Donald Grub, James Glass and Sam Margolis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Nasri keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Nasri moves into the clinch successfully.
Nasri gets through Bak's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head. Bak drops down looking for an ankle pick but Nasri pulls his leg out and moves away.
Bak throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land. Nasri slips under a jab. Nasri fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Bak, pushing him back against the cage. Nasri working some nice short punches in the clinch.
It looks like Jong Bak has been cut. Nasri pulls guard successfully.
Bak stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Nasri swivels though and keeps the full guard. Bak passes easily into side control. Nice work. Nasri knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Bak on the ground.
That's one minute gone in the round. Bak working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Bak tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Bak is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Nasri is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Bak swings around for an armbar but Nasri sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Bak's guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Nasri stopping the sweep attempt from Bak. Nasri connects with a couple of short punches. Bak is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Bak is trying to keep Nasri in close.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Nasri is stalling in the full guard. The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. Nasri wants to control from the top but Bak keeps moving.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Nasri chips away with some ground and pound. Nasri with a nice head shot there. Nasri wants to control from the top but Bak keeps moving. Bak trying to control the position.
Bak working for submissions but it's allowed Nasri to get to half guard.
Bak gets back to full guard.
Nasri slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard. Bak not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Bak wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Nasri pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Bak is keeping the position for now. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Brock Nasri. Bak tries to keep at a distance but Nasri has taken the fight into the clinch. Bak is trying to pull guard but Nasri has him pressed against the cage. Brock Nasri has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jong Bak. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Nasri breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Nasri throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Bak cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
It looks like Brock Nasri has been cut. Bak looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Nasri throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Jong Bak dominated that round. Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval. Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!
Bak is trying hard to land a takedown here. Nasri sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. Nasri shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Nasri showed some decent athleticism there. Nasri tries to pass to full mount but Bak defends it. Bak on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound. Nasri takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position. Bak looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Ground and pound from Nasri. Bak is trying to control but can't.

That's one minute gone in the round. Nasri wants to stand but Bak has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace. Bak looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Bak is looking to control Nasri's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Bak avoid being mounted? Nasri is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound. Nasri trying to mount his opponent but Bak defends it. Bak taking some punishment here, with Nasri in his half guard. Bak trying to control but Nasri postures up.
Nasri takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position. Bak wants to control but Nasri is keeping busy and won't allow it.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Bak actively working from the bottom here. Bak tries to roll over but Nasri keeps him under control. Bak gets back to full guard.
Nasri postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Nasri has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Bak is controlling Nasri's posture. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Nasri wants to control from the top but Bak keeps moving. Bak wants to sweep but no luck. Bak escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Nasri gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Bak is trying to control the position from the bottom.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Nasri wants to control from the top but Bak keeps moving. Nasri with a nice head shot there. Nasri is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact. Bak is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Nasri defends well. Nasri is sitting in close to Bak's body. Bak has gone for a guillotine from the bottom. Oh damn, that looks pretty tight! Nasri is panicking - it looks like this one could be all over! Yes, Nasri is tapping! That was a very nice submission by Bak.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:44 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Jong Bak! A less than humble Jong Bak misjudged his post fight interview somewhat and came across a little too arrogant whilst trying to hype up his own abilities.
