Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jose Benevidez! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Kaio Beitum! The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Emerson Jorge and Seu Braga.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Benevidez has managed to clinch.
Beitum is trying to pull guard but Benevidez has him pressed against the cage. Benevidez dictating the pace here, as the fighters clinch against the cage. Benevidez wants to take the fight to the mat but Beitum manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch. Benevidez is looking for a takedown. Beitum drops down looking for an ankle pick but Benevidez pulls his leg out and moves away.
Benevidez pushes Beitum up against the cage in a clinch. Benevidez wants to take the fight to the mat but Beitum manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jose Benevidez. That's going to take a lot out of him. Beitum drags the fight down to the ground.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon. Beitum escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Benevidez gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Benevidez stopping the sweep attempt from Beitum. Benevidez wants to pass the guard but Beitum is keeping the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Benevidez throws a big right hand that misses. Beitum is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Benevidez advances position into side control! Beitum really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Benevidez. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Beitum tries to bench press Benevidez off him but Benevidez keeps the position. Benevidez working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Benevidez tries to advance to mount but Beitum denies him. Beitum wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done! The referee asks Benevidez politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Benevidez prefers to stall for the moment though.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Beitum is trying to get back to his feet. Benevidez wants to control but Beitum is keeping him busy. Benevidez in side control, working for a kimura. He's got hold of an arm and he's torquing it... Beitum is tapping! That's the end of the fight!
