PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mike Pain (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Paul Gregory (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gregory is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Chumbawamba - English Rebel Songs. Paul Gregory will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Mike Pain!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Paul Gregory!
The judges for this bout are Arvi Lind, Marco Blurström and Johanna Lukiainen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gregory looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Pain is fending him off so far but Gregory persists. Nope, Pain circles away and we're back to standing.
Mike Pain seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Gregory feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Pain keeping moving, preventing Gregory from controlling successfully.
Gregory must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Gregory is working Pain over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Pain had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Gregory defends it easily.

Pain might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Pain is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Pain looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Pain is pressing down on Gregory's thigh, looking to free his foot. Gregory is holding on for now.

Pain seems to be looking for submissions.
Pain thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Gregory's head.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Pain is staying active underneath Gregory, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Gregory is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Gregory is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Gregory seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Pain regains full guard. Nicely done.

Gregory makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

Pain has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Gregory is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Pain.

BOOM! Gregory connects with a massive shot to the dome!

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Gregory has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Pain's face.

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Gregory cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Paul Gregory showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Gregory bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Gregory is sitting in close to Pain's body. Pain has gone for a guillotine from the bottom. Oh damn, that looks pretty tight! Gregory is panicking - it looks like this one could be all over! Yes, Gregory is tapping! That was a very nice submission by Pain.
