Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
13 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jhonny Cage! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
8 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, John Thompson! The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Stewart Dunkirk and Frank Dennis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Thompson works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance. Cage instigates a clinch. Cage drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
A bit of stalling here from Thompson.
Thompson lands with a short punch from the clinch.

Cage's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not. Thompson scores with a hook to the body. Cage is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though. A short right hand to the side of the head by Thompson. With the fighters clinched against the cage, Thompson creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut. Thompson lands a hook to the side of the head. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Thompson ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Thompson no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard. The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup. Thompson lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Cage!
That's one minute gone in the round. Thompson looking to control but Cage is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Cage is looking to get to half guard. Thompson is in the full mount, landing strikes. Thompson lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning. Cage manages to work a leg through to get back to half guard here. Good work there by Cage, under a barage of strikes from Thompson.
Cage landing small, sideways elbows. Cage is staying active underneath Thompson, who seems content to just control the action from this position. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Thompson is looking to advance position but Cage won't allow it. The referee calls for the fighters to work.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Thompson has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Cage throws a strike from the bottom that misses.

Thompson uses his free foot to push down on Cage's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Cage. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Thompson thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage. Cage is in a horrible position here. Thompson smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Cage throwing punches from his back but nothing is landing. Thompson scores with a couple of good head shots there.
Thompson throws some shoulder strikes here and then postures up. Oh, he's gone for an armbar! Cage has his hands clasped together but Thompson breaks the hold and Cage is forced to tap! This one is aaaaaaaaaaall over! That was lightning fast by Thompson!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). John Thompson! John Thompson tried to hype himself up post fight but didn't word it too well and it ended up with him sounding like a bit of a tool.
