PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Cumhur Kaplan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Maximus Felton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Cumhur Kaplan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Maximus Felton!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Hogan, Skip Squint and Steve Erwin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Felton lands a jab to the nose.

Kaplan gets caught napping as Felton dives in and scores a takedown. Kaplan manages to retain guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kaplan being controlled here, momentarily.
Felton working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Felton wants to pass the guard but Kaplan is keeping the position.
Kaplan is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Felton scoring with punches to the head and body.
Felton slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Felton is in close to Kaplan's body, working some short punches and elbows.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Felton won't allow Kaplan to get back to his feet.

Felton postures up.
Kaplan can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Felton controls the pace.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Felton circles away from the clinch attempt

and Felton counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Felton content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

Felton is looking for a kimura but Kaplan is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Felton to get the leverage.
Kaplan is trying to stand back up but Felton is controlling him

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Felton perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Felton's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Felton seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Felton content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Felton drops an elbow to the side of Kaplan's head.
Felton trying to control the pace.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Maximus Felton was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Felton fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Kaplan gets tackled into the cage by Felton. Felton maintains the clinch.
Felton tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Kaplan with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.
Felton misses with an elbow over the top.
Kaplan wants to break the clinch but can't.
Come on Felton - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.
Felton tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Cumhur Kaplan has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Maximus Felton.
Kaplan unloads a knee to the mid-section. Felton lets out a prehistoric sounding urrrrgh.
Kaplan is trying to pull guard but Felton has him pressed against the cage.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Kaplan is looking to take this one to the mat.

Felton lands a takedown into guard.
Felton is stalling in the full guard.
Kaplan knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Felton on the ground.
Felton connects with a couple of short punches.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Kaplan wants to get back to his feet but Felton is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Felton not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Maximus Felton hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Felton showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Kaplan.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Maximus Felton dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Felton fails with a takedown attempt.
Kaplan throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Horrible takedown by Kaplan or perhaps it was just good defense by Felton which made him look bad.
Kaplan tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Felton shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Kaplan sprawls well. Kaplan wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Felton gets slowly back to his feet.
No luck for Kaplan with that takedown attempt.

Felton fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Kaplan, pushing him back against the cage.
Kaplan is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Felton to keep the fight standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Cumhur Kaplan. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Felton tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
Felton manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.
Felton is working for takedown but Kaplan is calmly controlling the position for now.
Felton tries to circle away but Kaplan has him pinned against the cage.

Kaplan is trying to stall.

Felton has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Kaplan regains guard immediately.
Kaplan wants to get back to his feet but Felton is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Felton scoring with some ground and pound.
Felton throwing strikes from guard but Kaplan blocks nicely.
Felton sitting in guard here, content to control.
Felton wants to pass the guard but Kaplan is keeping the position.
Felton controlling from the top position.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Kaplan wants to get back to his feet but Felton passes into half guard.
Felton moves nicely into side control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kaplan wants to get back to his feet but Felton is dominant here and he's now got Kaplan's back!
Felton really has the hooks in deep now - there seems like no escape for Kaplan.

Kaplan won't enjoy being in this position. Felton looking for the choke. Oh... he's slipped the arm under the neck - Kaplan is tapping - it's over boys! Felton picks up the submission victory!
