Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Steve Staunton! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mardy Bum! The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Timothy Bukovac and .
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Staunton feints and as Bum raises his hands in defense, Staunton changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Staunton stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Bum swivels though and keeps the full guard. Bum is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Staunton might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Staunton wants to control from the top but Bum keeps moving. Staunton trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Staunton's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Steve Staunton has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet. Staunton moves into range and clinches up with Bum. Staunton has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Bum regains guard immediately. Staunton stands up over Bum, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
That's one minute gone in the round. Bum is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Staunton defends well. Bum looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Staunton not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Bum pulls Staunton in to control the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Staunton advances to half guard. Staunton thows a huge punch but Bum dodges it nicely.
Staunton wants to pass to mount but Bum is defending the position. Staunton uses his free foot to push down on Bum's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Bum. Staunton postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Bum looks a forlorn figure.
Bum is trying to stand but he's not in a good position to be doing that! Staunton has taken his back! The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Staunton connects with a series of strikes and the referee is calling for Bum to escape the position.
Bum just trying to survive but Staunton is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Good control from Staunton. Staunton working from the back looking to end the fight with a rear naked choke. Bum is doing well to defend. Staunton seems to have got his hand under the chin though and he's sunk the choke in! Bum is forced to tap and this one is over!
