Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Officer Franklin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mega Funkyama (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Funkyama has chosen Bon Jovi: Bad Medicine as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the featherweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
17 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Officer Franklin! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
6 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Mega Funkyama! The judges for this bout are Kenichi Hosakawa, Yukihiro Yamamoto and Ren Mimura.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Funkyama throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Franklin was covering up waiting for the punch and Funkyama finishes the takedown easily into guard. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Funkyama is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. Franklin looking to control.
Funkyama missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Funkyama stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Franklin swivels though and keeps the full guard. Funkyama has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Franklin has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Funkyama has passed into side control.

That's one minute gone in the round. Funkyama sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Franklin is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
You can see the frustration on Franklin's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Funkyama throws an elbow but Franklin slips to the side and avoids it well. Franklin parries the strikes from Funkyama easily there. Funkyama is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Franklin to escape.
Franklin can't do much from the bottom here. Funkyama creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Franklin sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike. Funkyama lands a decent elbow from side control. Funkyama trying to control the position but Franklin is working away. Funkyama working the ground and pound from side control.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Franklin is working to avoid the ground and pound but Funkyama connects with a decent elbow. Funkyama misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Franklin can't do much from the bottom here. Funkyama tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Funkyama tries to move to mount but Franklin blocks the move with his legs. Sloppy strikes there by Funkyama. Funkyama has knee on belly and moves into mount.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Funkyama throwing shots from mount but they're not landing. Funkyama lands a heavy elbow. Franklin has worked his way to half guard, taking advantage of Funkyama's lack of action.
Funkyama lands with a punch from half guard. Funkyama working the head and body with strikes. Funkyama has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Franklin defend it? Funkyama steps over the head and cranks it - Franklin is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Funkyama!
