PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jeremy Bentham (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sergei Montoya (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Bentham comes to the cage accompanied by Death March. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 5 - 0, fighting out of London, Jeremy Bentham!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Sergei Montoya!
The judges for this bout are James Glass, Chris Edwards and Steven Brown.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Montoya misses with a takedown attempt

and Bentham counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Montoya takes a knee right on the jaw!
Montoya drops down looking for an ankle pick but Bentham pulls his leg out and moves away.
Bentham misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Bentham defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Montoya.
Jeremy Bentham has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Sergei Montoya.
Bentham missing with a left hand there. Montoya was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Bentham tries to clinch up but Montoya circles away and keeps his distance.

Bentham gets caught napping as Montoya dives in and scores a takedown. Bentham manages to retain guard.

Montoya won't allow Bentham to get back to his feet.

Bentham wants to stand up but Montoya is controlling him.

Montoya is fighting to break Bentham's control of his arms but Bentham is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Montoya must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Montoya looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Bentham is fending him off so far but Montoya persists. Nope, Bentham circles away and we're back to standing.
Nice sprawl there from Bentham as Montoya shoots in.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Montoya is defended easily by Bentham.

Bentham closes the distance and clinches.

Bentham is pressed up against the cage. Montoya has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Bentham down to the mat. Bentham avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
The fight stays on the outside here - Bentham looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Montoya fails with a takedown attempt.
Montoya looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Bentham is fending him off so far but Montoya persists. Nope, Bentham circles away and we're back to standing.
Montoya shoots and misses
and Bentham counters with a head kick.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Bentham throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Montoya.
Bentham fails in his attempt to clinch.

Bentham moves in looking to clinch but Montoya pushes him off.
Montoya avoids a kick to the body.
Montoya closes this distance looking for a takedown but Bentham circles away.

and Bentham counters with a head kick that drops Montoya to the mat! Montoya scrambles across the canvas and gets back to his feet, still wobbly!
Bentham leaves Montoya with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Bentham tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Montoya dives in and grabs Bentham's left leg, looking for a takedown. Bentham pushes down on Montoya's head and hops out.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jeremy Bentham dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Montoya fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Montoya shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Bentham as he jumps to the side.
Bentham pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Bentham tries to close the distance and clinch but Montoya swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Montoya throws a lazy right hand but Bentham sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.

and Montoya counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Montoya throwing shots but Bentham is blocking nicely.
Montoya trying to control the action but Bentham is working from the bottom.
Bentham is trying to stand.
Bentham trying to hold on to Montoya's head to control him but Montoya postures up.
Montoya is trying to control the action in half guard but Bentham is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Montoya is trying to work for a kimura but Bentham is defending well.
Bentham is staying active underneath Montoya, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Bentham regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Montoya.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Montoya trying to control but Bentham is working from the bottom.
Montoya in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Bentham utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Bentham has control of Montoya's left arm, preventing Montoya from doing any damage.
Montoya trying to control but Bentham is working from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
The fight stays on the outside here - Bentham looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Montoya closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Bentham's guard.
Montoya wants to control from the top but Bentham keeps moving.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Montoya wants to pass the guard but Bentham is keeping the position.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Montoya won't allow Bentham to sweep him here.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Sergei Montoya hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Bentham tries to close the distance and clinch but Montoya swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sergei Montoya showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!



Montoya shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Bentham is trying to defend but Montoya finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Bentham is trying to stand back up but Montoya is controlling him
Bentham is not content to let Montoya control the position.

Montoya is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Bentham is desperately trying to improve his position but Montoya has a good base and remains in mount.

Montoya has hold of Bentham's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Bentham manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Montoya avoids the attempt from Bentham to control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Bentham is looking to get to half guard.
Montoya thowing shots but they're missing.
Bentham avoids a series of strikes thrown by Montoya.
Montoya lands with some strikes.
Bentham is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.

Montoya misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.

Bentham is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.

Montoya lands a big shot there that rocks Bentham but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Montoya goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Bentham is on top in guard.
Oh Bentham is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!

Bentham decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Montoya, up you get!
Bentham seems to have got his legs back now.
Montoya fails to land the takedown.
Bentham fails with an attempt to clinch.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Montoya circles away from the clinch attempt.
Montoya fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Montoya scores with a takedown into Bentham's guard.
Bentham wants to get back to his feet but Montoya is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Montoya chips away with some ground and pound.

And that's the end of the fight!
Sergei Montoya comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Montoya has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
