PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Adam Matthew (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Karhan Kayan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Matthew kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Rage Against The Machine - Killing In The Name. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Adam Matthew!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Karhan Kayan!
The judges for this bout are Viktor Lagutenko, Aleksei Zolotukhin and Konstantin Menshow.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kayan tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Matthew paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Kayan works over Matthew's head and body with a nice combination.
Kayan fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Kayan shoots in looking for a takedown. Matthew tries to sprawl out of it but Kayan keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Matthew manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Kayan pushes Matthew up against the cage in a clinch.
Kayan tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Adam Matthew has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Karhan Kayan.
Matthew is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Kayan is defending well for now.
Kayan tries a knee to the head but Matthew blocks it.

Matthew is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Kayan pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Kayan jumps guard but Matthew stands there with Kayan around his waist. Kayan gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Matthew pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Kayan throws a series of punches but Matthew moves out of range.
Kayan tries to clinch but Matthew is having none of it.
Kayan fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Kayan closes the distance and clinches.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Kayan wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Matthew has him pressed against the cage.
Kayan looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Matthew prevents Kayan from breaking the clinch.
Matthew is pressed up against the cage. Kayan has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Matthew down to the mat. Matthew avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Kayan swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Matthew counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Kayan!
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

Kayan is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
Matthew trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Poor strikes thrown by Matthew there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!
Matthew lands a nice shot to the head.
Kayan is looking to get to half guard.
Matthew lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.

Matthew jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Kayan manages to avoid the submission attempt.

Kayan throwing some weak shots from the bottom that do no damage.
Matthew prevents Kayan from escaping the position.
Matthew in side control, throwing shots but Kayan defends.

Matthew is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Kayan has escaped the position, nice work there.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Matthew is looking to take a break and control but Kayan is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Matthew keeps the fight on the outside.

Matthew shoots in looking for a takedown but Kayan manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Matthew's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Matthew slaps away a takedown attempt from Kayan, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Kayan throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Matthew.

and Matthew counters with a shoot takedown. Kayan fights it but they end up in guard.

Matthew has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Matthew looks to throw an elbow but misses.
Matthew really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Kayan is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Matthew is defending well.

Matthew is trying to pull guard but Kayan turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.

Kayan looks to land a left hand but Matthew moved out of range nicely.

A close second round but Karhan Kayan will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Matthew stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Matthew wants it to stay on the feet.
Kayan tries to clinch but Matthew is having none of it.

Kayan throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Kayan throws a right and a left that Matthew avoids nicely.

Kayan needs to keep his hands up - Matthew had a free shot at his head there.
Kayan throws a series of punches but Matthew avoids them all with ease.
Matthew will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Adam Matthew overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Matthew missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Kayan tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Matthew with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Kayan wants to control the position but Matthew says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.
Kayan really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Matthew. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Matthew is trying to control the action in half guard but Kayan is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Adam Matthew spent the whole post fight interview bigging himself up. It didn't go down that well with the fans after a while as they thought it was a bit arrogant.
