Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the light heavyweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
7 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Rocky Balboa! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
8 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Boris Blocksson! The judges for this bout are Arvi Lind, Ben Zyskovitsi and Johanna Lukiainen.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Blocksson misses with a wild body shot. Balboa takes a shot right to the bread basket. Blocksson staying out of range there. Balboa missing with a left hand there. Blocksson was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one. Balboa goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
It looks like Boris Blocksson has been cut. Balboa gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there. Blocksson avoids a lazy jab quite easily. Blocksson misses with a hook. Balboa ducked under it nicely. Balboa connects with a jab. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Balboa jabbing away but nothing is landing. Balboa misses the jab. Balboa swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Balboa takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Balboa fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Blocksson looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath. Balboa connects with a single shot there. Balboa throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Blocksson sees it coming and avoids it easily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Balboa throws a right and a left that both miss. Balboa lands a nice hook to Blocksson's body. Blocksson takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes. Balboa jabs at Blocksson's body. Blocksson just misses with a punch to the body.
Balboa misses with a few strikes there.
Balboa throws a lazy uppercut
and Blocksson counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Blocksson. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace. Balboa looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Balboa utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Blocksson is fighting to break Balboa's control of his arms but Balboa is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment. Blocksson pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Balboa is keeping the position for now.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Balboa seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now. Blocksson wants to control from the top but Balboa keeps moving. Balboa utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Blocksson trying to move into half guard but instead Balboa has managed to sweep! Balboa controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Blocksson looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Blocksson trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from! Balboa has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Blocksson looking to hit a scissor sweep but Balboa is one step ahead there. Blocksson doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Balboa wants to control from the top but Blocksson keeps moving. Balboa trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Balboa controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Blocksson looking for a sweep. Not yet Blocksson, not yet.
That's four minutes gone in the round.
The ref stands the fighters back up. Rocky Balboa wasn't doing enough on the ground. Balboa thows a body shot but no joy. Blocksson takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it. Blocksson lands a nice hook to Balboa's body. Balboa takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes. Blocksson digs a good body shot into Balboa's ribs. Rocky Balboa seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Blocksson lands a lovely overhand right. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Blocksson takes a body punch but keeps moving. Balboa takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away. Blocksson ducks under a wild hook from Balboa. Balboa circles and sees the opportunity to plant his feet and throw a really nice straight left hand that drops Blocksson to the canvas! Blocksson doesn't know where he is but he's trying to survive - Balboa keeps piling on the pressure and forces the referee to step in! This one is aaaaaall over!
