The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gomez shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Del Piero is trying to defend but Gomez finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Del Piero shoots in looking for a takedown. Gomez tries to sprawl out of it but Del Piero keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the ropes. Gomez manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Del Piero stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Del Piero wants it to stay on the feet.
Gomez lands a jab.
Gomez tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Del Piero was well out of range. Poor timing from Gomez.

Del Piero throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Gomez's waist but Gomez gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Del Piero off to one side.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Gomez tries to hold on but Del Piero pushes him away.

Gomez really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Del Piero. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Gomez reaches up to try and pull Del Piero in and control his posture, but Del Piero latches on to an arm and pivots quickly for an armbar! Gomez taps out and this one is all over!

After the fight, Giovanni Del Piero was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
