0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Marvin Perez! The judges for this bout are Kenichi Hosakawa, Shigeki Sano and Tatsuya Matsuyama.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Perez avoids a punch combination nicely.
Stevenson throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Stevenson throws a series of punches but Perez avoids them all with ease. Perez drives through with a takedown into guard. We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace. Perez trying to control the position from guard on top but Stevenson is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Perez landing some decent shots from guard. Perez wants to pass the guard but Stevenson is keeping the position. Stevenson wriggles free and stands up. Joe Stevenson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Perez looking to score a takedown here. Stevenson is defending well but Perez drives through and ends up in Stevenson's guard.

Stevenson really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Perez loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Stevenson is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. Perez wants to lay and pray for a moment but Stevenson keeps working. Stevenson blocking the ground and pound attempt from Perez. Perez seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime. Perez sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Stevenson defending well though.

It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Marvin Perez was stalling too much, according to the referee. Perez shoots in and drives through. Stevenson sprawls well. Stevenson tries to clinch up. Stevenson throws a series of punches but Perez avoids them all with ease. Nice sprawl there from Stevenson as Perez shoots in.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Stevenson lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook. Stevenson lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Perez at a distance.
Perez shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Perez was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! Perez lands with some strikes. Perez is landing with some decent strikes but Stevenson is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Stevenson in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head. Perez lands a big shot there that rocks Stevenson but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Perez landing strikes from the mount and Stevenson is in trouble! Stevenson's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Marvin Perez showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. That's time! Stevenson's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

Stevenson tries to stand but Perez is controlling his head. Perez is trying to control Stevenson's posture but Stevenson avoids it. Stevenson stands up and we're back to a striking position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Stevenson goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Perez shoots in but Stevenson avoids the takedown attempt easily. Stevenson displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Perez. Stevenson's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Stevenson duly obliges. Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Stevenson!
Stevenson has a takedown stuffed. Perez dives in and grabs Stevenson's left leg, looking for a takedown. Stevenson pushes down on Perez's head and hops out. Joe Stevenson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Marvin Perez. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Nice takedown defense from Perez. No joy for Stevenson on that attempt. Marvin Perez is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Perez is looking to take a break and control but Stevenson is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Stevenson seems a little lost for a moment, as Perez dominates the positioning. Perez misses with the ground and pound.

Stevenson is not content to let Perez control the position. The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace. Perez connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Stevenson some visible discomfort.
Perez throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and Stevenson works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure. Marvin Perez has got the better of the ground game so far. Perez is taking a breather. Stevenson says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. Joe Stevenson has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
That's four minutes gone in the round. Perez looking to pass the half guard. Not this time. Perez is looking to take a break and control but Stevenson is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Perez is just content to waste time from the top position. Stevenson takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Joe Stevenson. I think Perez has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
