PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Zangief Zangief (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Luke Reed (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Zangief Zangief!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Luke Reed!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Reed clinches up against the cage.
Zangief has Reed pressed against the cage, preventing Reed from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Zangief can't get the takedown.
Zangief has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Reed is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Zangief is trying to trip Reed. He has hold of a leg but Reed is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Zangief persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Zangief accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Reed wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Zangief is now in half guard.

Zangief is looking for a kimura but Reed is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Zangief to get the leverage.

Reed is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Zangief pulls his head out easily.

Reed really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Zangief. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Reed moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Zangief shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Reed pinned against the cage. Reed gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Zangief throws a push kick but Reed slaps the foot to one side.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Reed has had enough of the clinch but Zangief keeps him there for the moment.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Zangief lands a nice short elbow.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Zangief thows a huge punch but Reed dodges it nicely.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Reed enables Zangief to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Reed manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Zangief connects with a couple of short punches.
Reed is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Reed wants to get back to his feet but Zangief is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Reed displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Zangief.
Zangief looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Reed misses with the combination.
Reed tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Reed bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Zangief's head backwards.

It looks like Zangief Zangief has been cut.
Reed stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Reed wants it to stay on the feet.
Reed shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Zangief eats them both and turns towards Reed to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Horrible takedown by Zangief or perhaps it was just good defense by Reed which made him look bad.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Zangief connects with a nice short shot to Reed's temple.

Zangief has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Reed defend it? Zangief steps over the head and cranks it - Reed is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Zangief!
