Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
10 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Matts Serra! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
11 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jean Luc Picard! The judges for this bout are Seu Braga, Alexandre Firmino and Emerson Jorge.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Picard bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes. Serra fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Picard manages to avoid it. Picard dives in and scores a takedown into Serra's guard. The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup. Serra looking to sweep here. No luck so far. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Serra is on top in guard.
Picard escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Serra gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Serra tries to free his leg and advance position but Picard is retaining full guard. Picard is looking for a triangle but Serra pushes his legs off easily.
Picard is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Serra wants to control from the top but Picard keeps moving. Serra has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Serra trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
That's one minute gone in the round. Serra trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Picard manages to land a sweep and now he's on top! Picard trying to control but Serra is working from the bottom. Serra looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Picard is stalling in the full guard. Picard wants to control from the top but Serra keeps moving. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Serra working for a triangle but Picard defends it easily.
Picard stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Serra swivels though and keeps the full guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Serra working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Picard doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Picard manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Serra escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Picard gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Serra keeping moving, preventing Picard from controlling successfully. Picard content to stall in guard here. Picard won't allow Serra to sweep him here.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Picard avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Jean Luc Picard. A punch lands to the side of Serra 's head but he takes it in his stride. Serra swings and misses with a hook to the body.
The crowd cheers as Picard lands an impressive looking overhand right. Serra doesn't seem phased though. Jean Luc Picard seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Serra gets in close and instigates a clinch. Serra stalling in the clinch but Picard improves position. Picard lands a shoulder strike. Serra has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate. A short left from Picard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A body shot lands from Picard.

Picard gets through Serra's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head. Picard lands a body punch - he's looking to wear down Serra. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Serra trying to control the position but instead, Picard has worked for underhooks and has pushed Serra into the cage. A left hand lands to the body for Picard.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Serra. Serra is trying to maintain a safe position but Picard gets an underhook and turns Serra into the cage. Picard goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Serra stalling in the clinch but Picard improves position. Picard has Serra pressed against the cage, preventing Serra from circling away and getting back to striking at range. Serra looking to stall.
Serra has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Picard after a bit of a struggle. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Jean Luc Picard dominated that round. That's time! Back to the action!
Picard shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Picard works his foot free and advances to mount. Serra stops Picard from taking his back. Still, being mounted isn't any better. Picard trying to control but Serra is having none of it. Serra has given up his back.

That's one minute gone in the round. Picard is working for the choke. He's slipped one arm under the chin. Serra has to defend the other arm for all he's worth... but Picard has managed to get that arm free too and he's tightening the choke! Serra taps out and looks absolutely disgusted with himself. Picard doesn't care though - he's delighted!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:20 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Jean Luc Picard!
