Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jay Huno (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Douglas Wellington (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Douglas Wellington has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jay Huno!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Douglas Wellington!
The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Steve Smith and William Peck.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Wellington looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Huno being controlled here, momentarily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's one minute gone in the round.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Douglas Wellington wasn't active enough on the ground.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Wellington.

Huno has closed the distance and engaged Wellington in a clinch.
Huno tries to land a knee to the head but misses.
Wellington blocks a couple of punches on the inside.

Wellington wants the takedown. Huno is fighting it off but Wellington persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Huno's guard against the cage.
Wellington controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Wellington postures up in Huno's guard and throws a big left but Huno blocks it.

Huno is looking to stand up but Wellington isn't so interested in that idea.
Wellington slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

We're going to have a standup here because Jay Huno wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Wellington dives in and scores a takedown into Huno's guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Huno is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Wellington is controlling him.
Wellington tries to free his leg and advance position but Huno is retaining full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Wellington is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Huno moves into the clinch.
Huno creates a bit of space for himself and sneaks an elbow through Wellington's defenses.
Wellington is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Huno gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Huno misses with a knee to the head.
Huno throws an elbow that misses.

Wellington successfully pulls guard.
Huno wants to get up but he can't break Wellington's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Huno won't allow Wellington to sweep him here.
Wellington scores with a couple of body punches from the bottom.

Wellington is controlling Huno's posture.
Wellington is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Wellington wants to free his trapped foot but Huno is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Still in half guard, Wellington seems content to control.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Jay Huno has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.

Huno closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Huno lands an elbow inside that Wellington shrugs off.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Douglas Wellington dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Wellington gets a trip takedown into half guard.
Wellington wants to free his trapped foot but Huno is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Wellington wants to take a breather but Huno is having none of it.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Huno moves into range and clinches up with Wellington.

Huno stands up and waves to Wellington to follow him.
Wellington closes the distance and clinches up with Huno, looking for a takedown. Wellington pushes Huno against the cage but Huno circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Wellington decides to pull guard.
Wellington really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Huno. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Wellington has a closed guard, preventing Huno from standing up.
Wellington pulls Huno in close to prevent any damage.
Wellington looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Huno clinches up with Wellington and pushes him back against the cage.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Douglas Wellington hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Wellington shoots in but no luck this time.
Jay Huno has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Douglas Wellington.
Wellington takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards.

Wellington gets tackled into the cage by Huno. Huno maintains the clinch.

Huno has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Wellington is proving hard to escape from.

Wellington throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Huno was covering up waiting for the punch and Wellington finishes the takedown easily into guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

Huno moves into range and clinches up with Wellington.
Huno connects with a nasty looking knee right to Wellington's face.
Huno tries a knee to the head but Wellington blocks it.

Wellington takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Wellington jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Huno walks away with a smile on his face. Wellington gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Wellington dives in and grabs Huno's left leg, looking for a takedown. Huno pushes down on Wellington's head and hops out.
Jay Huno has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Douglas Wellington.

Huno has Wellington up against the cage in a clinch.
Huno misses with a punch on the inside.
Huno looks to throw an elbow but misses.

Huno is fighting off a takedown attempt but Wellington is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Huno to the mat. Huno regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
Huno wants to stand and escape but Wellington is having none of it.

Wellington throws an elbow that misses. Huno uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Wellington's guard. Nice move by Huno!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Wellington is trying to keep Huno in close.
Huno tries to stand but Wellington is controlling from the bottom.
Connects with an elbow from the bottom, proving to the judges that he's still active off his back.
Wellington is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Wellington is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Wellington wants to stand and escape but Huno is having none of it.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Wellington tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Huno swivels and escapes.

Huno has Wellington up against the cage in a clinch.

Wellington wants the takedown. Huno is fighting it off but Wellington persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Huno's guard against the cage.
Wellington is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Wellington shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Huno pinned against the cage. Huno gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

It looks like Douglas Wellington has been cut.

Huno is pressed up against the cage. Wellington has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Huno down to the mat. Huno avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Douglas Wellington is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Huno throws an elbow but it misses.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Jay Huno.
I think Wellington has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
