Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jon Haws! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Joe Rourke! The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, Hugh Johnson and Bruno Hogan.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Haws throws a right and a left that both miss. Rourke misses with an uppercut. Haws moves out of range of the strikes. Rourke misses with a looping left. Rourke misses with an uppercut. Haws saw that one coming. Rourke is trying hard to land a takedown here. Haws sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. Rourke closes the distance and clinches up with Haws, looking for a takedown. Rourke pushes Haws against the cage but Haws circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Good exchange - Rourke coming out on top. Rourke changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Haws looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Haws manages to get one leg in to regain half guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Haws works his way to full guard. Good work. Rourke must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Haws is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Rourke has his hands clasped together but Haws extends an breaks Rourke's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Haws.
