2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jimmy Newton! The judges for this bout are Kenichi Hosakawa, Yasuomi Hirokawa and Taro Takaoka.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Rivers. Rivers gets a double leg takedown into Newton's guard. Rivers pushes down on Newton's leg and manages to get into half guard. Newton looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Rivers wants to pass to mount but Newton is defending the position. Newton trying to control from the bottom.
Rivers not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. It looks like Rivers is going to stand back up.

Rivers is looking for a kimura but Newton is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Rivers to get the leverage. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Rivers trying to mount his opponent but Newton defends it. Newton wants to improve his position but Rivers is controlling well.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Rivers fails with a takedown attempt. Newton has a takedown stuffed. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

It looks like he's just sitting there. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Rivers is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Newton sees it coming and defends easily.

Rivers is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Newton is just riding it out for now. Rivers eventually gives up the hold. Rivers seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Newton does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Newton is defending against the submission attempts here by Rivers.
