Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jonathan Briggs (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Johnny Woo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jonathan Briggs had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jonathan Briggs!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Johnny Woo!
The judges for this bout are Winston Howard, Steve Erwin and Bruno Hogan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Woo will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Horrible takedown by Woo or perhaps it was just good defense by Briggs which made him look bad.
Woo throws a lazy right hand but Briggs sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Briggs shoots in and drives through. Woo sprawls well.
Briggs misses the shot to the body.
Briggs ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Woo moves away.
Woo blocks a head kick by Briggs.
Woo shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Briggs but Briggs pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Jonathan Briggs has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Johnny Woo.
Woo tries to close the distance and clinch up but Briggs swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Briggs gets caught flat footed, as Woo shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Woo postures up in Briggs's guard and throws a big left but Briggs blocks it.
Briggs wants to sweep here but Woo controlling him for the moment.

Woo has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Briggs can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Briggs loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Woo is on top in guard.
Briggs looking to hit a scissor sweep but Woo is one step ahead there.
Briggs has momentary wrist control but Woo slips an elbow through the middle.

Woo postures up in Briggs's guard and throws a big left but Briggs blocks it.
Woo has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Briggs utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Woo controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Woo wants to control from the top but Briggs keeps moving.

Woo forces his way into half guard.

Woo is actively looking for submissions here but good counter grappling here from Briggs as he works his way to full guard.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


The fight stays on the outside here - Woo looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Briggs shoots for a takedown but Woo saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Woo gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Briggs to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Johnny Woo has got the better of the ground game so far.

Briggs got a little sloppy there for a moment and Woo has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Briggs has managed to get both his arms back between Woo's legs - danger averted.
Woo is looking to stand up but Briggs isn't so interested in that idea.

Briggs is stalling in the full guard.

Woo has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Briggs is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Woo.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Briggs cracks Woo with a big right hand but Woo just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.

Briggs wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Woo, who protects the arm well.
Briggs wants to control but Woo is keeping him busy.

Woo wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!
Briggs postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.

Woo is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Briggs has just dragged him back down to the mat.

Briggs scores with a couple of short elbows.
Woo is looking for a sweep.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Woo takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Woo is not content to let Briggs control the position.

Briggs is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Woo is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Woo tries to escape but Briggs is in control.
Briggs is working Woo over with some ground and pound from side control.
Briggs scores with a couple of short elbows.
Woo wings away with a couple of strikes but they don't land.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Briggs fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Woo manages to avoid it.

Woo is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Woo wants to sweep here but Briggs controlling him for the moment.

Woo is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
Woo is working for takedown but Briggs is calmly controlling the position for now.

Woo is trying to pull guard but Briggs has him pressed against the cage.

Briggs pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Woo gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Briggs.
Briggs tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Briggs works the jab nicely.
A looping hook to the body misses from Woo. Briggs does a little dance to reset his feet.
Briggs throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Briggs throws a head kick but Woo moves out of range.

Briggs shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Woo napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Briggs creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.

Briggs is sitting in half guard. He's postured up and lands a nice elbow. Oh, Woo is hurt! He's hurt bad - Briggs fires away with more strikes and the referee jumps in to save Woo from any more punishment! Congratulations to Briggs! Great finish!
