PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Brais Punk (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Matt Hunter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hunter has chosen Dance Monkey -Sage Francis as his entrance music. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Matt Hunter was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Brais Punk!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 20 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Matt Hunter!
The judges for this bout are Saam Ante, Patrick Alders and Paulsen Ambrosius.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Punk closes the distance and pushes Hunter back into the cage.
Hunter wants a takedown.

Punk jumps guard.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Hunter trying to control the position from guard on top but Punk is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Punk knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Hunter on the ground.
Hunter slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Punk looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Punk pulls Hunter in close to prevent any damage.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Hunter shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Punk's guard.

Punk trying to keep a closed guard but Hunter is proving a slippery customer.
Hunter wants to control from the top but Punk keeps moving.
Hunter forces his way into half guard.

Hunter takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Punk is trying to maintain the position but Hunter is very close to passing his half guard.
Hunter is trying to control. Punk wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Matt Hunter was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Punk drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Punk is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Hunter knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Punk is staying tight to Hunter's torso, preventing him from escaping.
Punk cracks Hunter with a big right hand but Hunter just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.

Punk swings around for an armbar but Hunter sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Punk's guard.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Punk working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Hunter doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Hunter manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Punk is on top in guard.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Punk gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Hunter regains guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Brais Punk.
Hunter shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Punk as he avoids it easily.

Punk tightens his grip and picks Hunter up, before dumping him to the ground. Hunter manages to land in guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Brais Punk just wasn't active enough.
Punk takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Hunter shoots in but no luck this time.
Brais Punk has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Matt Hunter.

Punk pushes Hunter up against the cage in a clinch.
The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.
Hunter drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Hunter tries to pull guard but Punk holds him up against the cage and eventually Hunter drops back down to his feet.

Hunter avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Hunter is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Hunter wants to control from the top but Punk keeps moving.

Hunter seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Hunter passes into half guard.

Hunter is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Punk doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Hunter.
Hunter wants to control but Punk is keeping him busy.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

Punk bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
You can see the frustration on Hunter's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Brais Punk has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.

Punk feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Punk will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
