Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Miguel the Luchador! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Chris Welsh ! The judges for this bout are Columbo Gatti, Dean Styles and Eddie Farnsworth.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! the Luchador shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Welsh but Welsh pushes him off and we're back to square one. the Luchador fails to land the takedown. Welsh gets caught flat footed, as the Luchador shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Welsh wants to sweep here but the Luchador controlling him for the moment. the Luchador wants to pass the guard but Welsh is keeping the position. the Luchador is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. the Luchador wants to control from the top but Welsh keeps moving. Welsh wants to sweep but no luck. the Luchador trying to control but Welsh is working from the bottom. the Luchador is fighting to break Welsh 's control of his arms but Welsh is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment. the Luchador wants to pass the guard but Welsh is keeping the position.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. the Luchador gets the takedown into side control. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's one minute gone in the round. Welsh is trying to buck the Luchador off. Welsh throws the Luchador to one side and escapes! Welsh lands a two punch combo.
the Luchador has a takedown stuffed. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Miguel the Luchador. That's going to take a lot out of him. the Luchador is breathing heavily. No luck for the Luchador with that takedown attempt. Welsh throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Welsh tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. the Luchador looks to land a right hand but Welsh moved out of range. A head kick misses from Welsh . Left hook, right uppercut from Welsh . the Luchador fails to land the takedown. A good leg kick by Welsh . Welsh throws a head kick that misses. the Luchador shoots for a double leg takedown but Welsh sprawls well. He's pushed the Luchador's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Welsh feints and as the Luchador raises his hands in defense, Welsh changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! the Luchador looking for a sweep. Not yet the Luchador, not yet. the Luchador is trying to keep Welsh in close.

the Luchador looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Welsh has picked the Luchador up and slammed him! the Luchador can't keep hold of the triangle and Welsh manages to pass to side control! the Luchador tries to bench press Welsh off him but Welsh keeps the position. the Luchador can't do much from the bottom here. the Luchador is trying to improve his position. the Luchador is working hard here to advance position. the Luchador gets back to half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. the Luchador avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Welsh . the Luchador is not content to let Welsh control the position.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Welsh throws a sloppy head kick and the Luchador moves out of range easily. Welsh lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Welsh . the Luchador fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Welsh sprawls well initially but the Luchador persists and gets the takedown into half guard. Welsh is looking to improve his position.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Welsh tries to kick the Luchador off but the Luchador keeps his base steady and stays in half guard. Welsh tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land. the Luchador is thwarting Welsh 's attempts to control the position. the Luchador is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Welsh doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time the Luchador.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Welsh makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work! Welsh shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in the Luchador's guard. the Luchador looking to hit a scissor sweep but Welsh is one step ahead there. the Luchador keeping moving, preventing Welsh from controlling successfully. the Luchador is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. the Luchador looking for a guillotine here but Welsh defends easily.

Chris Welsh dominated that round. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Welsh looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but the Luchador puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard. the Luchador trying to pass the guard but Welsh defending well. the Luchador seems to be working for a kimura but Welsh defends the submission attempt. Welsh tries to get to full guard but the Luchador has control of the leg. the Luchador is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Welsh is trying to stand back up but the Luchador is controlling him

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Welsh shoots and misses and the Luchador counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. Welsh is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. the Luchador on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if the Luchador tries to get out of the position. the Luchador is staying active underneath Welsh , who seems content to just control the action from this position. the Luchador actively working from the bottom here. Welsh prevents the Luchador from improving his position. Welsh lands strikes from half guard. The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Welsh connects with a nice short shot to the Luchador's temple. Welsh sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. the Luchador defending well though. Miguel the Luchador overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Welsh thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Welsh missing with the ground and pound from half guard. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Welsh gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and the Luchador counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. the Luchador is looking to advance position but Welsh won't allow it. the Luchador seems like he's working for an arm triangle here. He's freed his trapped foot and he's rotating nicely. Welsh is in big trouble! He's tapping out! This one is aaaaaaaaaaaall over!
