PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jose Aldo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kenshi Yoshino (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the fighters buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jose Aldo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Kenshi Yoshino!
The judges for this bout are Shirou Masuda, Taro Takaoka and Hirohito Nitta.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Aldo tries to clinch there but Yoshino circles away.
Yoshino changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Aldo tries to avoid it but Yoshino manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Aldo to the ground. Aldo escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!

Aldo feints and as Yoshino raises his hands in defense, Aldo changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Aldo trying to control but Yoshino is working from the bottom.

Yoshino manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

Yoshino goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Aldo turns into him and now he's in Yoshino's guard.
Aldo has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Aldo wants to stand but Yoshino is controlling his posture from full guard.

Yoshino has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Aldo has managed to clinch.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Yoshino can't get the takedown.

Aldo manages to break the clinch.
Yoshino shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Aldo sprawls well. Aldo wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Yoshino gets slowly back to his feet.
Jose Aldo has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kenshi Yoshino.
Yoshino circles away from the clinch attempt.
Aldo doesn't manage to clinch there - Yoshino circles away.
Yoshino tries to score a power double leg takedown but Aldo sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Yoshino somewhat.
A looping hook to the body misses from Aldo. Yoshino does a little dance to reset his feet.

Aldo shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Yoshino's guard.
Yoshino seems keen to control Aldo's posture.
Yoshino lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Aldo!

Yoshino goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Aldo is on top in guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Aldo takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Aldo looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Yoshino!

Aldo wants to get back to his feet.

Jose Aldo has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.

Aldo clinches up against the cage.

Aldo digs a right hand into Yoshino's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Yoshino's gas tank.
Aldo lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.

Aldo breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Yoshino shoots in and drives through. Aldo sprawls well.
Yoshino shoots in for a double leg but Aldo sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Aldo throws a right hand that Yoshino ducks under and follows up with a left that Yoshino also avoids with ease.
Aldo wants to clinch.
Yoshino shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Aldo as he jumps to the side.
Jose Aldo has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kenshi Yoshino.

Jose Aldo seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Aldo throws a head kick but Yoshino moves out of range.

Yoshino throws a big elbow that misses.

Yoshino drops back, looking for a kneebar! Aldo looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Aldo looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Aldo!
Aldo in side control, just content to control the action for now.
Yoshino is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Aldo's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.

Yoshino trying to hold on to Aldo's head to control him but Aldo postures up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Aldo throwing shots but Yoshino is blocking nicely.
It looks like Aldo is going to stand back up.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Aldo seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Yoshino does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!



Aldo throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Yoshino was covering up waiting for the punch and Aldo finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Aldo is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Yoshino is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Yoshino is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Aldo's half guard.

Yoshino is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Aldo has hold of Yoshino's hands but Yoshino slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.

Yoshino seems to be working for a kimura but Aldo defends the submission attempt.
Aldo is staying active underneath Yoshino, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Yoshino throwing shots but Aldo is blocking nicely.
Aldo has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Yoshino is working away from the top position though.
Aldo is looking to improve his position.
Yoshino uses his free foot to push down on Aldo's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Aldo.
Aldo manages to regain half guard. Good work.
Aldo blocking the ground and pound attempt from Yoshino.
Yoshino is looking to take a break and control but Aldo is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Yoshino is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Aldo has managed to free his arm - good work.
Yoshino trying to mount his opponent but Aldo defends it.
Yoshino has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Aldo is squirming around, avoiding Yoshino's attempts to control the action.
Yoshino is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
Jose Aldo is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Yoshino looking to finish Aldo with some ground and pound. This is bad for Aldo!
Yoshino can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Aldo is looking to escape.
Yoshino cracks Aldo with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Yoshino pushing the pace here, looking to move to his opponents back and work for a finish.
Kenshi Yoshino has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Kenshi Yoshino comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Aldo has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
