12 - 10 - 1, fighting out of St Petersburg, Syete Gabilog! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
6 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Rick Rypien! The judges for this bout are Aleksei Zolotukhin, Sergei Dronov and Illya Tyunina.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Gabilog shoots in but Rypien avoids the takedown attempt easily. Gabilog uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Rypien. Gabilog shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Gabilog moves away from the strike by Rypien. Rypien will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Nice straight punches there by Rypien. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Rypien. Rypien misses the shot to the body.
That's one minute gone in the round. Rypien scores with a nice head shot.
It looks like Syete Gabilog has been cut. Rypien throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Gabilog sees it coming and avoids it easily. Rypien throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Gabilog rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Rypien moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Gabilog shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Rypien counters with a straight punch to the midsection. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Syete Gabilog. That's going to take a lot out of him. A head kick misses from Rypien.

Rypien jabs Gabilog right on the nose. Gabilog blinks but takes it well. Rypien throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Rypien misses with a shot to the body and Gabilog counters with a stiff right hand.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Rypien throws a right and a left that Gabilog avoids nicely. Rick Rypien seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Gabilog shoots for a double leg takedown but Rypien sprawls well. He's pushed Gabilog's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Gabilog misses with a takedown attempt and Rypien counters with a straight punch to the midsection. Gabilog gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Rypien counters with a stiff right hand. Rypien misses with a body shot.
Rypien tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Gabilog paws at him with a jab and circles away.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Gabilog checks a low kick from Rypien. Rypien scores with a jab to the body. Rypien is looking to clinch. Gabilog fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Gabilog gets a double leg takedown into Rypien's guard. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup. Gabilog trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rypien tries to close the distance and clinch but Gabilog swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Gabilog slips a jab and a cross from Rypien.

Gabilog moves out of range of the strikes. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Rypien throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

and Gabilog counters with a single leg into guard. Rypien didn't expect that. Gabilog trying to control but Rypien is working from the bottom. Gabilog pushes down on Rypien's leg and manages to get into half guard. Gabilog is looking to advance position but Rypien won't allow it. Gabilog throwing shots but Rypien is blocking nicely.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Gabilog content to control rather than advance. Gabilog throws a strike but Rypien avoids it easily and moves to full guard. Rypien looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it. Gabilog prevents Rypien from getting back to his feet. Gabilog has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Rypien looking to hit a scissor sweep but Gabilog is one step ahead there. Gabilog throwing strikes from guard but Rypien blocks nicely. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Gabilog postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Gabilog with a flurry of punches that miss. Gabilog is looking to work some ground and pound but Rypien has wrist control. That's four minutes gone in the round. Gabilog looking to sit in guard and control but Rypien gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Rypien trying to control but Gabilog is working from the bottom. Rypien is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully. Rypien wants to pass the guard but Gabilog is keeping the position. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

and Gabilog counters with a takedown into side control. Gabilog throws a strike aimed at the side of Rypien's head but Rypien avoids it well. Gabilog postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Gabilog misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Gabilog tries to advance to mount but can't. Gabilog is trying to ground and pound but Rypien uses the momentary lack of control by Gabilog to regain half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Gabilog wants to take a breather but Rypien is having none of it. Gabilog lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Rypien keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Rypien is looking to escape.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Gabilog wants to lay and pray for a moment but Rypien keeps working. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Gabilog wants to pass the guard but Rypien is defending well. Rypien is staying active underneath Gabilog, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
The ref stands the fighters back up. Syete Gabilog wasn't doing enough on the ground. Gabilog on the wrong end of a nice jab. Rypien stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Rypien wants it to stay on the feet.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Gabilog has a takedown stuffed. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Syete Gabilog. That's going to take a lot out of him. Rypien tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Gabilog manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Rypien clinches with his opponent.
Rypien scores with a shot to the side of Gabilog's head. Gabilog drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Gabilog changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Rypien fights it off and pushes away nicely.

and Gabilog counters with a nice double leg into side control. Rypien won't be happy with that.
And that's the end of the fight! Syete Gabilog showed his dominance in that final round. I think Gabilog has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
