Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, David McDonald! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Bruce Gracie! The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Yves DeLean and Trevor Gratis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Gracie throws a sloppy head kick and McDonald counters with a nice kick to the body. Gracie throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around McDonald's waist but McDonald gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Gracie off to one side. Gracie shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. McDonald defends it nicely. Gracie dodges the punch combination from McDonald.
Bruce Gracie seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Gracie misses with a takedown and McDonald decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Gracie's guard. David McDonald has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Bruce Gracie. The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up. McDonald throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. McDonald throws an elbow that misses. Gracie uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in McDonald's guard. Nice move by Gracie! The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Gracie wants to control from the top but McDonald keeps moving.
That's one minute gone in the round. Gracie forces his way into half guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. McDonald is looking to improve his position.
McDonald has guillotine here! It looks pretty tight! Could this be all over! No, Gracie escapes and passes into side control at the same time. Nice work there by Gracie! McDonald is looking for a sweep. McDonald sneaks back into half guard. McDonald gets back to full guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. McDonald is looking for a triangle but Gracie pushes his legs off easily.
McDonald is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. McDonald manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Gracie manages to get himself to full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round. The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. McDonald won't allow Gracie to pass to mount. McDonald is pressing down on Gracie's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it. McDonald working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Gracie doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Gracie manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. McDonald looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Gracie passes into side control.
Gracie is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but McDonald is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. McDonald is trying to get back to half guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. McDonald is not content to let Gracie control the position. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Gracie is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, McDonald has escaped the position, nice work there. McDonald is looking for a sweep. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Gracie working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Gracie is looking to take a break and control but McDonald is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
David McDonald dominated that round. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
McDonald scores with a spinning back kick! Gracie fails with the takedown and McDonald counters with a flying knee. Nice. McDonald misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Gracie drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. McDonald struggling a bit here. McDonald manages to get back to half guard.

McDonald tries to roll over but Gracie keeps him under control. Gracie trying to pass the guard but McDonald defending well. McDonald moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. David McDonald overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. McDonald looking for a guillotine here but Gracie defends easily.

McDonald manages to get to full guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Gracie tries to free his leg and advance position but McDonald is retaining full guard. McDonald throws his legs up looking for a submission but Gracie uses it to pass to side control.
Gracie looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Gracie wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by McDonald, who protects the arm well. McDonald tries to buck Gracie off but Gracie is having none of it. McDonald is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Gracie off and has taken his back!
That's four minutes gone in the round. McDonald is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Gracie defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined. McDonald throws a series of strikes and Gracie wriggles onto his back, so he's now mounted. He's in real trouble here. McDonald postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Gracie looks a forlorn figure.
Gracie wants to control but McDonald is having none of it. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. McDonald connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
David McDonald dominated that second round. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

Gracie doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body. Gracie will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Gracie closes this distance looking for a takedown but McDonald circles away. A big left from Gracie misses. McDonald lands a head shot. Gracie with a lazy takedown attempt and McDonald counters with a slapping leg kick.
That's one minute gone in the round. Gracie fails to land the takedown. David McDonald has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Bruce Gracie. Gracie has his takedown stuffed and McDonald counters with a lovely straight right hand! Gracie takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. McDonald connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt. McDonald moves into range and clinches up with Gracie. McDonald's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. McDonald gets in close and instigates a clinch. McDonald breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. McDonald feints and then cracks Gracie's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Gracie down. Gracie looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. McDonald wants to improve his position but Gracie is controlling well.
McDonald is trying to maintain the position but Gracie is very close to passing his half guard. Gracie is keen to just control but McDonald is a slippery customer. McDonald wants to improve his position but Gracie is controlling well.
McDonald is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Gracie pulls his head out easily.

And that's the end of the fight! David McDonald showed his dominance in that final round. Well McDonald has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
