Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Larry Monthan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Alberto Bodini!
The judges for this bout are Winston Howard, John Mangel and Skip Squint.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Monthan instigates a clinch.
Monthan's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Bodini tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Bodini jumps guard but Monthan stands there with Bodini around his waist. Bodini gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Bodini jumps into guard, dragging Monthan to the mat.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Monthan trying to control the position from guard on top but Bodini is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Monthan wants to pass the guard but Bodini is keeping the position.

Bodini wants to stand but Monthan is controlling the position.
Monthan forces his way into half guard.

Monthan seems to be looking for submissions.

Monthan is looking for a kimura but Bodini is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Monthan to get the leverage.

Bodini is defending against the submission attempts here by Monthan.
Bodini pushes Monthan off looking to stand but Monthan dives back in and keeps control.

Monthan is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Bodini is just riding it out for now. Monthan eventually gives up the hold.

Monthan uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Bodini.

Bodini connects with a crisp jab.

Bodini feints and then winds up with a huge right hand that connects perfectly and sends Monthan sprawling to the canvas! Monthan rolls over backwards and springs off the cage and manages to regain his footing - how acrobatic! Oh, he's still wobbly - can Bodini finish him?!


Monthan is rocked!


It looks like Larry Monthan has been cut.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
A punch combination from Bodini misses.
Oh Monthan is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Bodini looks to land a combination but Monthan avoids it well.
Bodini throws a series of punches but Monthan moves out of range.
Monthan seems to have got his legs back now.

Monthan gets a takedown into half guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Bodini is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Monthan scores with a couple of nice shots.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Alberto Bodini will probably get the nod.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Bodini fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Monthan decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Bodini tries to kick Monthan off but Monthan keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Bodini is trying to stand.
Larry Monthan overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Monthan wants to work for an arm triangle but Bodini is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Monthan is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.

Monthan is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Bodini doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Monthan.

Monthan is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Bodini is surviving well by controlling Monthan's body position as best he can.
Bodini is really trying hard to get back to his feet.

Monthan looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.

Monthan with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.

Monthan goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Bodini is on top in guard.
Bodini cracks Monthan with a solid left hand.
Bodini throwing strikes but missing.
Monthan has Bodini pulled in close to control his posture.
Monthan is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Monthan is looking to advance position but Bodini won't allow it.

Monthan is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Bodini sees it coming and defends easily.
Bodini is trying to stand back up but Monthan is controlling him
Monthan is pressing down on Bodini's thigh, looking to free his foot. Bodini is holding on for now.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Monthan is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Bodini pushes Monthan off looking to stand but Monthan dives back in and keeps control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. And we move into the final round!


Monthan slips a jab from Bodini.
Bodini throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Monthan.

Monthan clinches with his opponent.

Monthan has picked Bodini up - he's going for a ride! Monthan dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.

Monthan is trying to work for a kimura but Bodini is defending well.

Monthan decides to stand up.
Monthan fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Bodini scores with a punch to the head.

Monthan throws a left and a right that both miss
and Bodini counters with a stiff jab, followed by a cross and an uppercut! That's too much punishment for Monthan to take - he tumbles to the canvas, blood pouring from his nose, barely conscious. That's the end of the fight! Great knockout by Bodini!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:12 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Alberto Bodini!
An out of breath Alberto Bodini thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
