PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Nicky Fernandez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rampage Liddell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Liddell has chosen Strange Clouds as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Nicky Fernandez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Rampage Liddell!
The judges for this bout are Kenichi Hosakawa, Shigeki Fujiwara and Tatsuya Matsuyama.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Fernandez misses the jab.

Liddell steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Fernandez.
Fernandez dives in and grabs Liddell's left leg, looking for a takedown. Liddell pushes down on Fernandez's head and hops out.

Fernandez shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Liddell as he jumps to the side.

It looks like Nicky Fernandez has been cut.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Fernandez slaps away a takedown attempt from Liddell, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Liddell rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Fernandez counters with a nice leg kick.

and Fernandez connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Liddell ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Fernandez moves away.

Liddell stalling in the clinch but Fernandez improves position.

and Fernandez cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Liddell tries to close the distance and clinch but Fernandez swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Fernandez scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Liddell doesn't seem bothered though.
Fernandez is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.
Liddell ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Fernandez connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Liddell tries to clinch but Fernandez moves out of range.
Rampage Liddell seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Fernandez tests Liddell's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Fernandez shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Fernandez has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Fernandez stays in close to Liddell's body and controls the position.

Liddell drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.

Fernandez shoots in for a double leg but Liddell sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Fernandez just misses with a punch to the body.

Liddell uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Fernandez.

Fernandez stuffs the takedown attempt from Liddell. Liddell gets slowly back to his feet.
Fernandez is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.

Liddell throws a series of punches but Fernandez avoids them all with ease.
Fernandez lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Fernandez throws a feint and then finishes with a kick to the body.
Liddell is breathing heavily.
Liddell walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Fernandez tries a head kick but it misses.

Fernandez lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.

Liddell is still on wobbly legs! Can Fernandez finish him?
This has been an exciting period of action!

Liddell seems to have recovered his senses.

Fernandez closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Liddell quickly recovers to half guard.
Liddell won't allow Fernandez to pass to mount.

Fernandez is stalling here. Liddell is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Fernandez seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Liddell has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

Fernandez steps in with a hook that catches Liddell right on the chin and knocks him to the floor! Fernandez follows him down with more strikes and that's all she wrote! Liddell looks absolutely devastated.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:51 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Nicky Fernandez!
An out of breath Nicky Fernandez thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
