PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Richard Ed (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hjalmar Dale (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Richard Ed!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Hjalmar Dale!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Dillan Fox and William Peck.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Dale shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Ed is trying to defend but Dale finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Dale trying to advance position but Ed counters by regaining guard.
Dale stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Ed swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Ed trying to control the position.
Dale looking to sit in guard and control but Ed gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Dale trying to keep a closed guard but Ed is proving a slippery customer.
Dale keeping moving, preventing Ed from controlling successfully.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Ed wants to pass the guard but Dale is keeping the position.
Dale seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Dale looking for a sweep. Not yet Dale, not yet.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Ed trying to control but Dale is working from the bottom.

We're going to have a standup here because Richard Ed wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Ed with a poor takedown

and Dale counters with a takedown into side control.
Ed tries to buck Dale off but Dale is having none of it.

Dale is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Ed has escaped the position, nice work there.
You can see the frustration on Ed's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Dale wants to lay and pray for a moment but Ed keeps working.

Dale is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Ed is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Ed is trying to control Dale's posture but Dale avoids it.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Ed tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Dale tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.
Ed really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Ed gets back to half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Dale is trying to control the action in half guard but Ed is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Dale is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Ed is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:27 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Hjalmar Dale!
Hjalmar Dale decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
