Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Valmir Caliman! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Miguel Ribeiro! The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Emerson Jorge and Felipe Paraventi.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Ribeiro with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Ribeiro shoots in looking for a takedown but Caliman manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Ribeiro's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. Ribeiro dives in and grabs Caliman's left leg, looking for a takedown. Caliman pushes down on Ribeiro's head and hops out. Caliman fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Ribeiro sprawls well initially but Caliman persists and gets the takedown into half guard. Ribeiro works his way to full guard. Good work. Caliman wants to control from the top but Ribeiro keeps moving. Ribeiro is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Caliman sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Ribeiro's guard. Caliman is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Caliman in particular looking to stall.
That's one minute gone in the round. Ribeiro is trying to stand up here but Caliman is controlling him well. Ribeiro makes his way to full guard, as Caliman worked for a kimura.
Caliman drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Caliman jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Caliman looking to control the position here, rather than advance. Caliman wants to control from the top but Ribeiro keeps moving. Caliman tries to free his leg and advance position but Ribeiro is retaining full guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Caliman controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Ribeiro trying to control the position.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Valmir Caliman wasn't doing enough on the ground. A telegraphed takedown attempt from Ribeiro is defended easily by Caliman. Valmir Caliman has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Miguel Ribeiro. Ribeiro shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Caliman but Caliman pushes him off and we're back to square one. Caliman scores a takedown into full mount! Caliman wants to finish this one by submission but Ribeiro is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Caliman.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Caliman working for a submission here. He's tucked his head under his opponent's arm, looking for an arm triangle. He's hopped off into side control, looking to tighten the submission... is it going to work? He's given up a good position looking for it. Ribeiro looks OK. Oh, I spoke too soon, he's out! That must have been tighter than I thought! Excellent work there by Caliman! Submission of the night perhaps?
