PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between George Gould (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rusty Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gould is coming into this fight with a significant injury, which will no doubt have an effect on his cardio. Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, George Gould!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Rusty Johnson!
The judges for this bout are Donatello Bradman, Hugh Johnson and John Mangel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gould displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Johnson.
Gould is breathing heavily.
Nice takedown defense from Johnson. No joy for Gould on that attempt.
Gould shoots in but Johnson avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Johnson tries to clinch but Gould moves away

and Gould counters with a single leg into guard. Johnson didn't expect that.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Johnson is on top in guard.

Johnson thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Gould keeping moving, preventing Johnson from controlling successfully.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Rusty Johnson was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Johnson wants to clinch up but Gould keeps it at a distance.

Johnson shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Gould but Gould pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Johnson goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Johnson lands with an uppercut that bounces Gould off the cage and back into range.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Rusty Johnson hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Johnson tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Gould stuffs the takedown attempt from Johnson. Johnson gets slowly back to his feet.

Gould on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Gould tries to get out of the position.

Johnson seems to be working for a kimura but Gould defends the submission attempt.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Johnson seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Gould does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Johnson not doing much here.
Johnson throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

A close second round but Rusty Johnson will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!



Gould tries to keep at a distance but Johnson has taken the fight into the clinch.
Gould tries to score a body lock takedown but Johnson shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Johnson can't break the clinch.
Johnson tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Gould avoids it.
Johnson wants to take the fight to the mat but Gould manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.

Johnson wants the takedown. Gould is fighting it off but Johnson persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Gould's guard against the cage.
Johnson stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Gould swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Johnson stands and steps away. Gould gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Johnson shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Gould pinned against the cage. Gould gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Johnson throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Gould.
Johnson has a takedown stuffed.
George Gould has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rusty Johnson.

Johnson changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Gould tries to avoid it but Johnson manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Gould to the ground. Gould escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Gould shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Johnson as he jumps to the side.
Johnson throws a head kick but Gould moves out of range.
Johnson dives in and grabs Gould's left leg, looking for a takedown. Gould pushes down on Johnson's head and hops out.
Gould displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Johnson.
Horrible takedown by Gould or perhaps it was just good defense by Johnson which made him look bad.

Johnson misses with an attempted mid kick.
Johnson shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Gould pinned against the cage. Gould gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
George Gould is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Gould shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Johnson sprawls well. Johnson wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Gould gets slowly back to his feet.

Rusty Johnson comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Johnson has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
