PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Kaili Mitchell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and DJ Peen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mitchell kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genuis that is Protect Ya Neck. Peen is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Fatman Scoop - Put Your Hands Up. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Kaili Mitchell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, DJ Peen!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Mitchell clinches.
Peen tries to pull guard but Mitchell holds him up against the cage and eventually Peen drops back down to his feet.
Knees in the clinch landing for Mitchell.
Mitchell unloads a knee to the mid-section. Peen lets out a prehistoric sounding urrrrgh.
The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.
Mitchell lands an elbow that stopped Peen in his tracks for a moment.


It looks like DJ Peen has been cut.
Mitchell wants to get back to striking at distance but Peen won't allow it.

Peen tightens his grip and picks Mitchell up, before dumping him to the ground. Mitchell manages to land in guard.
Mitchell looking to hit a scissor sweep but Peen is one step ahead there.

Mitchell looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Peen is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Peen looks gassed!

Mitchell is trying to control the position but Peen postures up.
Peen won't allow Mitchell to get back to his feet.
Mitchell knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Peen on the ground.
Mitchell trying to keep a closed guard but Peen is proving a slippery customer.
Peen controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Mitchell is looking to stand back up but Peen counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Mitchell.
Mitchell tries to escape but Peen is in control.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Mitchell tries a head kick but it misses.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Mitchell is looking to clinch.
Mitchell looks for a takedown but Peen sprawls well.
Mitchell shoots in but no luck this time.
Mitchell shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Peen but Peen pushes him off and we're back to square one.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Kaili Mitchell. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Peen doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Mitchell counters with a head kick. That will keep Peen thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!
Mitchell shoots and misses

and Peen counters with a shoot takedown. Mitchell fights it but they end up in guard.
Peen trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Mitchell wants to stand but Peen is controlling the position.
Mitchell not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

and Peen counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Mitchell wants to stand up but Peen is controlling him.
Mitchell can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Peen controls the pace.

Peen is thwarting Mitchell's attempts to control the position.
Peen wants to lay and pray for a moment but Mitchell keeps working.
Peen seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Peen wants to pass to mount but Mitchell is defending the position.
Mitchell is trying to maintain the position but Peen is very close to passing his half guard.

Peen decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Mitchell is looking for a sweep. Peen is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Peen prevents Mitchell from standing back up.

Peen looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Mitchell is trying to maintain the position but Peen is very close to passing his half guard.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Mitchell looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Peen controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Peen advances position into side control!

Peen tries for a kimura but Mitchell is defending well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Peen trying to control the action but Mitchell is working from the bottom.
Mitchell is pushing Peen's head away, looking to escape. Peen manages to hold on to the position though.

Peen is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Mitchell's shoulder. That is not cool.
Mitchell is trying to improve his position.
Peen advances to full mount.
Peen takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Peen can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Mitchell is looking to escape.

Despite being in the dominant position, DJ Peen just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Mitchell misses with a takedown

and Peen counters with a takedown into side control.

Peen is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Mitchell has escaped the position, nice work there.
Mitchell is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

DJ Peen showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Peen scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.

Peen tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Peen has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Mitchell is looking to reverse the position.
Peen controls the position.
Mitchell stops Peen from passing to mount.
Mitchell is not content to let Peen control the position.
Mitchell tries to bench press Peen off him but Peen keeps the position.

Mitchell can't do much from the bottom here.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Peen slows the pace down.
Mitchell pushes Peen away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Peen gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Mitchell shoots and misses

and Peen counters with a nice double leg into side control. Mitchell won't be happy with that.
The referee asks Peen politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Peen prefers to stall for the moment though.
Peen passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Mitchell!

Peen looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
Mitchell is squirming around, avoiding Peen's attempts to control the action.
Mitchell tries to lock up and control but Peen gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Mitchell is trying desperately to improve position.

Peen has control of Mitchell's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Mitchell regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Peen manages to capitalize on a mistake by Mitchell to take his back!

DJ Peen comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Peen winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
