Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jacob Mason! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Bill Moss! The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Daniel Franklin and Gwen Towbar.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! No luck with that takedown attempt from Moss. Moss scores with a takedown into Mason's guard. The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet. Moss trying to control the position from guard on top but Mason is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Mason scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Mason wants to clinch up but Moss keeps it at a distance. Mason misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Nice takedown defense from Moss. No joy for Mason on that attempt. Mason's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Moss connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Mason scrambles back to his feet. Moss shoots in for a takedown but Mason shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Mason swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Moss is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Moss feints and as Mason raises his hands in defense, Moss changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Mason wants to get back to his feet but Moss is in a dominant position and won't allow it. Moss wants to pass the guard but Mason is keeping the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Moss controls from within his opponent's guard. Moss trying to control the position from guard on top but Mason is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup. Moss drops back looking for a leg! Mason is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Mason manages to kick Moss off! Moss jumps back into Mason's guard. Mason looking for a guillotine here but Moss defends easily.
Moss won't allow Mason to get back to his feet. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Moss tries to free his leg and advance position but Mason is retaining full guard. Moss trying to control the position from guard on top but Mason is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Moss stands up from guard. Let's bang! Mason lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh. Moss gets a double leg takedown into Mason's guard. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Moss missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Mason had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Moss defends it easily. Mason is breathing heavily. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Mason keeping moving, preventing Moss from controlling successfully. Mason is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Moss is controlling him.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Mason trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful. Moss wants to control from the top but Mason keeps moving. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Moss distracts Mason with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm. Moss is working Mason over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes. Moss lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard. Moss controls from within his opponent's guard. Mason has his feet on Moss's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work. The fight moves into the clinch position. Moss tries to pull guard but Mason won't allow it.
Jacob Mason has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Bill Moss.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Moss turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Moss manages to end up in side control. Mason might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. A lull in the action here. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Moss lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face. Moss tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Mason parries the strikes from Moss easily there. Moss is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Mason to escape.
Moss prevents Mason from escaping the position. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Bill Moss dominated that round. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
Moss gets in close and instigates a clinch. Moss wants the takedown. Mason is fighting it off but Moss persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Mason's guard against the cage. Moss trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Mason has his feet on Moss's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work. Moss tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Mason manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Moss throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Mason was covering up waiting for the punch and Moss finishes the takedown easily into guard. Mason had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Moss defends it easily. Hammerfist, elbow! yells Moss's corner. There ya go! There ya go! Mason wants to stand and escape but Moss is having none of it. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Moss postures up and lands a big shot to Mason's brow. Bill Moss has got the better of the ground game so far. Mason wriggles free and stands up.
That's one minute gone in the round. Moss shoots in and drives through. Mason sprawls well. Mason throws a sloppy head kick and Moss moves out of range easily. Wow, both these guys are really going for it! Moss decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Mason is trying to stand back up but Moss is controlling him
Mason has hold of Moss's hands but Moss slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow. Moss stops Mason from getting back to his feet.
Mason is not content to let Moss control the position. Mason wants to get back to his feet. Moss is nestled in close to Mason, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure. Mason is trying to get back to full guard. Moss is looking to advance position but Mason won't allow it.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Moss lands strikes from half guard. Moss decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Mason shoots in looking for a takedown but Moss manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Mason's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. Moss gets a double leg takedown into Mason's guard. Moss trying to control but Mason is working from the bottom. Moss prevents Mason from getting back to his feet. Mason throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Moss is pushing down on Mason's leg trying to pass to half guard. Mason is fighting to maintain full guard but Moss has managed to sneak the leg through. Moss really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Mason. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Moss working over Mason with some ground and pound. Mason looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Nice strikes from Moss there. Moss is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound. Moss is trying to control. Mason wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. Moss is nestled in close to Mason, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure. Mason avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Moss. Moss with a momentary lay and pray from half guard. Mason is looking to get back to is feet but Moss passes into side control.
Mason tries to get back to his feet but has found himself mounted instead. Damn, that's gotta suck. Mason wants to try and get back to his feet. Mason is desperately trying to improve his position but Moss has a good base and remains in mount. Moss lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Mason is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.
Mason is squirming around, avoiding Moss's attempts to control the action. Moss raining down hammerfists from mount. Mason wants to get back to his feet.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Moss working away from the top, dropping strikes. Moss looking to control but Mason is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Mason is trying to escape the mount.
Mason is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Bill Moss showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!
Moss throws a head kick that misses. No luck with that takedown attempt from Mason. Moss forces Mason back against the cage and clinches. Moss is trying to trip Mason. He has hold of a leg but Mason is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Moss persists though and gets the takedown into guard. Moss trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Mason is looking for a triangle but Moss pushes his legs off easily.
Mason keeping moving, preventing Moss from controlling successfully. Moss wants to pass the guard but Mason is keeping the position. Moss trying to control the position from guard on top but Mason is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Moss prevents Mason from getting back to his feet.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mason isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Moss stacks Mason on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Moss! Both fighters are breathing heavily. Moss remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while. Mason is trying to get back to his feet. Moss scoring with punches and elbows. Moss tries to advance to mount but Mason denies him. Mason taking punishment in the form of punches.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Mason is trying to improve his position. Moss wants to control but Mason is keeping him busy. Moss decides to stand back up. Mason tries to keep at a distance but Moss has taken the fight into the clinch. Mason is trying to break free. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Moss jumps guard and drags Mason to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back. Mason wants to stand but Moss has a closed guard, so he can't escape. Moss kicks Mason off and gets to his feet. Moss throws a head kick but Mason moves out of range.
Moss darts in and clinches Mason up against the cage.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Moss escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Moss closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Mason's guard. Mason is looking to stand up but Moss isn't so interested in that idea. Moss working some strikes from top position. Mason pushes Moss off and gets back to his feet.
Moss closes the distance but Mason moves to the side and Mason counters with a nice double leg into guard. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Moss is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Mason wants to control from the top but Moss keeps moving. Moss has his foot on Mason's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Mason works his way back into a safe position though.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Mason advances position into side control! Moss bucks up and tries to throw Mason off but instead Mason has got his back! Mason has his opponent's back and is working for the choke. Mason looking for the choke but no joy. Jacob Mason has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Moss trying to control but not successfully. Bill Moss is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
And that's the end of the fight! Bill Moss comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. Well Moss has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
