PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Happy Gilmore (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rocco Urso (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Urso has chosen Big Ten Inch as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the light heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Happy Gilmore!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Rocco Urso!
The judges for this bout are John Kavanagh, Dean Styles and John Roberts.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Urso throws a head kick that Gilmore semi-blocks.


It looks like Happy Gilmore has been cut.
A head kick misses from Urso.
Gilmore shoots in and drives through. Urso sprawls well.
Gilmore blocks a head kick by Urso.
Gilmore takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
A nice inside leg kick there by Urso. That's going to slow Gilmore down.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Urso must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Gilmore is looking to sweep but instead, Urso has passed into half guard.
Urso wants to stand up but Gilmore has a hold of him and won't allow it.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Urso dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Gilmore. That did some damage!

Urso rushes Gilmore and presses him up against the cage.
Urso using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Gilmore has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Gilmore tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Urso just stands there and leans against the cage.
Urso is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.
Urso lands a nice elbow.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Urso tries to land a knee to the head but Gilmore blocks with his arms.

Urso breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Gilmore misses with a takedown
and Urso counters with a lovely straight right hand!
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Happy Gilmore. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Urso tries a head kick but it misses.
Urso pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Gilmore circles away from the clinch attempt.
Urso throws a head kick that misses.
Gilmore shoots and misses
and Urso makes the exchange count by landing a cracking kick to the body. Gilmore really felt that one!

Gilmore decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Urso looks gassed!

Urso has one foot on Gilmore's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
Urso doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Gilmore counters with a takedown into side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Gilmore shoots in for a double leg but Urso sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Gilmore closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Gilmore wants to pass to mount but Urso is defending the position.

Gilmore is working for a submission of some sort.
Gilmore trying to control the action but Urso is working from the bottom.

Gilmore seems to be working for a kimura but Urso defends the submission attempt.
Urso is looking to escape.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Urso is staying active underneath Gilmore, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.

Gilmore seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Urso for as long as he can get away with.

Gilmore tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Gilmore has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
You can see the frustration on Urso's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Gilmore is trying to work for a kimura but Urso is defending well.

Gilmore is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Urso is just riding it out for now. Gilmore eventually gives up the hold.
Urso gets back to full guard.
Gilmore passes Urso's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Gilmore stalling.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Gilmore goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Urso rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Gilmore's guard! Nice work there by Urso!
Urso has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Gilmore is proving hard to escape from.
Urso is pushing down on Gilmore's leg trying to pass to half guard. Gilmore is fighting to maintain full guard but Urso has managed to sneak the leg through.
Gilmore moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Gilmore is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Gilmore pulls Urso in close to prevent any damage.
Gilmore keeping moving, preventing Urso from controlling successfully.

Gilmore is looking for a triangle but Urso pushes his legs off easily.

Gilmore escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Urso gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Urso is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Gilmore has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Urso is looking to defend but Gilmore has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Urso! Gilmore pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Urso taps out and this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:04 of round 4, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Happy Gilmore!
