PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jack Black (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ricky Dray (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Dray has chosen Champion as his entrance music. Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jack Black!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ricky Dray!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Frank Dennis and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Black throws a right and a left that Dray avoids nicely.
A jab from Dray misses.
Dray fails to land the takedown.
Black connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
Nice sprawl there from Dray as Black shoots in.
Black dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Black scores with a three punch combo!
Black cracks Dray with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Black closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Dray actively working from the bottom here.

Black gets to his feet - back to striking we go!

That's one minute gone in the round.
Black connects with a nice looking jab.
Dray ducks right into an uppercut from Black.
Black tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Dray manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Black tries to score a power double leg takedown but Dray sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Black somewhat.
Dray slaps away a takedown attempt from Black, before circling back to the center of the mat.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jack Black. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Black is breathing heavily.

Black shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.

Dray is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Black is looking to stand but Black has his arms wrapped tightly around him, looking to prevent the damage.
Black prevents Dray from getting the reversal.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Black trying to control but he's not successful this time.

Black is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet!

Dray closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Dray lands in his opponent's guard.

Dray should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Dray drops back looking for a leg! Black is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Black manages to kick Dray off! Dray jumps back into Black's guard.

Dray postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Black is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Dray, into his guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Black trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jack Black dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Black prevents Dray from getting the reversal.

Black is looking to stall here but Dray recovers full guard.

Black drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Dray manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Black has Dray in his guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Dray pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Black is keeping the position for now.

Dray postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Black is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Dray, into his guard.

Dray is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Black wants to stand but Dray has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Dray is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Black defends well.
Black pushing down on Dray's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.

Black is actively looking for submissions here but good counter grappling here from Dray as he works his way to full guard.

Black gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jack Black dominated that second round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!


Black slips a jab and a cross from Dray.
Black throws a right and a left that both miss.
Jack Black seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Black scores with a jab.

and Dray counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

Dray tries to sprawl but Black drives through with a takedown into half guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Black accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Dray working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Black doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Black manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Dray is working an open guard so Black takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Black lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Black throws a hook to the side of Dray's head but Dray sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

Black closes the distance and pushes Dray back into the cage.
Black wants to break the clinch but can't.
Black is pressed up against the cage. Dray has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Black down to the mat. Black avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Black tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Dray was well out of range. Poor timing from Black.
Black is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Dray closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Black's guard.
Dray has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Black is proving hard to escape from.
Jack Black overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Dray drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Black dives on top into guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Dray is in trouble now - Black has advanced to mount!

Black goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Dray turns into him and now he's in Black's guard.
Black is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

Well Black has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
