And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Neal Smith!
The judges for this bout are Josh West, Colin Fray and Chris Saunders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
No joy there for Smith, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Smith tries to clinch

and Jones counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Jones trying to control the action but Smith is working from the bottom.
Smith pushes Jones off looking to stand but Jones dives back in and keeps control.
Jones moves nicely into side control.
Smith is not in a great position here, taking some shots.
Jones is looking to take a break and control but Smith is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Jones prevents Smith from escaping the position.
Jones trying to control the action but Smith is working from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Smith is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.
Smith looks gassed!

Jones tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Jones has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Jones is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Smith knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Jones looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Jones is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Smith has escaped the position, nice work there.
Jones wants to lay and pray for a moment but Smith keeps working.

Jones working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.

Jones is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Smith has escaped the position, nice work there.
An elbow from Jones crashes against the mat.
Smith really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Jones. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Smith tries to escape but Jones is in control.
Jones lands a few punches from side control.

Jones is working for what looks like an arm triangle here. Smith is trying to escape and Jones transitions quickly into an armbar! He's slapped it on tight and Smith is forced to tap! Nice work there by Jones! Very nice indeed!
