PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Stephen Dyer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rene Schweidler (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Schweidler has chosen IZ as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Stephen Dyer!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Rene Schweidler!
The judges for this bout are Johanna Lukiainen, Anni Minnemäki and Matti Vanhoillinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Schweidler takes the fight into the clinch.

Dyer manages to break the clinch.
Some bone on bone action there as Dyer checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
Schweidler feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Dyer's calf.
Schweidler ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Dyer moves away.

Dyer gets a takedown into half guard.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

Dyer is looking for a kimura but Schweidler is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Dyer to get the leverage.
Schweidler is not content to let Dyer control the position.
Dyer works his way into side control.

It looks like Rene Schweidler has been cut.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Dyer lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Schweidler circles away quickly and effectively.
Schweidler is looking to clinch but Dyer is avoiding it.

Schweidler is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Dyer is keeping busy.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Dyer cracks a nice hook into Schweidler's ribs.

Dyer's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Schweidler tries to clinch but Dyer is having none of it.

and Dyer counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Dyer connects with a good right hand that stumbles Schweidler. Schweidler circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Dyer shoots in and drives through. Schweidler sprawls well.
Dyer throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

Dyer swings for the body but Schweidler moves out of range.
Schweidler moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Dyer misses with a hook.
Schweidler misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Dyer.
Schweidler throws a low kick but it's checked well by Dyer.

Schweidler connects with a leg kick. Dyer looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Dyer looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Dyer's corner calls for a 1-2. Dyer obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
Dyer lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!



Dyer feints and then winds up with a huge right hand that connects perfectly and sends Schweidler sprawling to the canvas! Schweidler rolls over backwards and springs off the cage and manages to regain his footing - how acrobatic! Oh, he's still wobbly - can Dyer finish him?!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

and Dyer counters with a nice right hand that sends Schweidler toppling to the canvas! Schweidler scrambles and gets back to his feet - can Dyer finish him?!


The cut above Rene Schweidler's eye is starting to cause him problems now.
Dyer throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Thud! ouch! good body kick from Schweidler - that will leave a mark!
Dyer shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Schweidler sprawls well. Schweidler wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Dyer gets slowly back to his feet.
Dyer rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Schweidler moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Dyer checks a leg kick.

Dyer looks to land a right hand but Schweidler moved out of range.
Dyer throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Dyer dips down and scores with a jab to the body.

Dyer lands a slapping body shot.
Schweidler takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Dyer throws a right and a left that Schweidler avoids nicely.
Dyer throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Dyer misses with a double jab.
Dyer lands an overhand right.


Rene Schweidler's cut is absolute horrible now. This looks like something out of a horror film with blood covering both fighters.
Dyer lands a jab-cross combination.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Rene Schweidler's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:14 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Stephen Dyer!
