PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Gangster Samurai (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mike Ivey (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Gangster Samurai!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Mike Ivey!
The judges for this bout are Ryoma Takatsuka, Josh West and Paul Gruel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Samurai shoots in and drives through. Ivey sprawls well.
Samurai shoots for a double leg takedown but Ivey sprawls well. He's pushed Samurai's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Ivey takes a swing at Samurai's ribcage but misses.
Ivey bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Samurai avoids a kick to the body.
Ivey throws a leg kick that misses.

Ivey gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Samurai to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Samurai stands and throws Ivey's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Samurai wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Ivey, who protects the arm well.
Ivey gets back to half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Samurai seems to be working for a kimura but Ivey defends the submission attempt.

Samurai wants to work for an arm triangle but Ivey is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Samurai is working for a kimura but Ivey is defending it quite comfortably.

Samurai is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Ivey is just riding it out for now. Samurai eventually gives up the hold.

Samurai seems to be looking for submissions.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Samurai is trying to work for a kimura but Ivey is defending well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Samurai is looking for a kimura but Ivey is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Samurai to get the leverage.

Samurai is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Ivey sees it coming and defends easily.

Samurai is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Ivey doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Samurai.

Samurai is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Ivey has managed to free his arm - good work.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Samurai looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.

Samurai is looking for a kimura but Ivey is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Samurai to get the leverage.

Samurai is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Ivey doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Samurai.

Samurai is working for a submission of some sort.
Ivey really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Samurai. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Samurai is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Samurai is working for an americana but Ivey has been sneaky and has managed to get back to half guard, whilst Samurai was thinking about the submission.

Samurai drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Samurai jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Samurai drops back, looking for a kneebar! Ivey looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Ivey looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Ivey!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Gangster Samurai dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Ivey explodes with a nice body kick and back out of range. Nice work.
Ivey misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Ivey, right into the meat.
Ivey moves into range and connects with a jab.
Samurai fails with the takedown
and Ivey counters with a right hand to the body.
Samurai tries for a takedown but Ivey sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Samurai shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Ivey defends it nicely.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Gangster Samurai. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Horrible takedown by Samurai or perhaps it was just good defense by Ivey which made him look bad.
A combination from Ivey does no damage.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Ivey's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Ivey duly obliges.
Samurai closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Samurai gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Ivey makes the exchange count by landing a cracking kick to the body. Samurai really felt that one!
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Samurai misses with a takedown attempt - Ivey sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Ivey cracks Samurai with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.


Samurai is rocked!
Ivey drops a shoulder and throws an uppercut that cracks Samurai right on the button. Samurai goes down! Ivey follows him to the mat and finishes the job with more strikes! Ivey gets the win via TKO!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:37 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Mike Ivey!
During a confident post fight interview, Mike Ivey thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
