Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
9 - 6 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Saifullah Gaziev! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Mr E Guest! The judges for this bout are Vladimir Khabensky, Ivan Kurochkin and Konstantin Menshow.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Gaziev rushes Guest and presses him up against the cage. Guest has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Gaziev uses from the top position. Gaziev will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Guest trying to control the position.
Guest pushes Gaziev off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there. A punch lands to the side of Gaziev 's head but he takes it in his stride.
It looks like Saifullah Gaziev has been cut. Guest throws a lazy uppercut
and Gaziev counters with a nice double leg into side control. Guest won't be happy with that. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Guest is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Gaziev's leg. He's managed it. Nice work. Guest regains full guard. Nicely done. Gaziev throws a big elbow that misses. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Guest is on top in guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Gaziev keeping moving, preventing Guest from controlling successfully. Guest controls from within his opponent's guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Guest stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Gaziev swivels though and keeps the full guard. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Guest accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Guest trying to control the position from guard on top but Gaziev is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Gaziev looking to control.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Guest tries for a takedown but Gaziev circles away easily and Gaziev counters with a three punch combo that has Guest backing up. Guest nods at Gaziev to acknowledge the strikes.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Gaziev with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Guest to score with a decent uppercut. Guest misses with a hook. Gaziev ducked under it nicely. Guest lands a really nice looking cross but Gaziev seems unphased.
Sloppy strikes from Gaziev. Those never looked like landing. Gaziev slaps away a takedown attempt from Guest, before circling back to the center of the mat. Guest misses with an uppercut
and Gaziev counters with a crisp one two that drops Guest! Gaziev thinks about following him to the mat for a moment but instead steps back and waves Guest to his feet! Guest is in big trouble! This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Guest throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Guest misses with a hook
and Gaziev connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Guest is rocked! Guest rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Gaziev counters with a double leg that slams his opponent to the canvas! Guest is in trouble here! Gaziev pounds away until the ref steps in to end the bout!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:14 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Slam). Saifullah Gaziev! Jumping up and down and very excited, Saifullah Gaziev waved his t-shirt featuring Milwaukee's Best 160 SALE $150's logo in front of the cameras.
