The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Couture closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Carter did well to prevent Couture getting side control.

Couture throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Carter tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Couture is in Carter's guard.

Couture cracks Carter with an elbow. That is naaassty.

Couture tries to advance position but instead Carter slips a leg back in to half guard.
Couture is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Carter is just riding it out for now. Couture eventually gives up the hold.
Couture is thwarting Carter's attempts to control the position.

It looks like Couture might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Randy Couture hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Couture shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Couture is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Carter defends it well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Couture wants to pass to mount but Carter is defending the position.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Couture in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Carter tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Couture!
