PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Benjamin Houston (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jones is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by P.I.M.P.. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Benjamin Houston!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, John Jones!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Chris Downing and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Houston shoots in and drives through. Jones sprawls well.
Jones lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Jones shoots in looking for a takedown but Houston manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Jones's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Jones moves in looking to clinch but Houston pushes him off.
Jones misses with a double jab.
Jones shoots in and drives through. Houston sprawls well.
Jones misses with a double jab.
Jones throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Houston.

Jones closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Houston to the mat! Houston manages to get full guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Houston seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Houston is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Jones with a flurry of punches that miss.
Houston has control of Jones's left arm, preventing Jones from doing any damage.
Houston could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Houston is looking for a triangle but Jones pushes his legs off easily.

Houston will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Houston is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Jones is looking to stand up but Houston won't let him.
Jones looking to sit in guard and control but Houston gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Jones wants to sweep but no luck.

Jones is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Houston wants to control from the top but Jones keeps moving.
Houston is pushing down on Jones's leg trying to pass to half guard. Jones is fighting to maintain full guard but Houston has managed to sneak the leg through.
Houston takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Jones is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Well, if Houston is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Benjamin Houston.
Houston tries to clinch but Jones moves out of range.
Jones misses with a wild combination.

and Houston moves into the clinch.
Houston gets underhooks to prevent Jones's takedown attempt.
Benjamin Houston has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of John Jones.

Jones goes for a takedown attempt but Houston pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

and Houston counters by clinching up.
Jones is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.

Houston pulls guard successfully.

Houston is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Houston wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but John Jones will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Houston shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Jones sprawls well. Jones wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Houston gets slowly back to his feet.
The fight stays on the outside here - Jones looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Jones fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Jones throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Houston's waist but Houston gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Jones off to one side.
Jones throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Houston.
Jones changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Houston tries to avoid it but Jones manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Houston to the ground. Houston escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Houston shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Jones but Jones pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Jones throws a nice outside leg kick.
Houston takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
Jones misses with a jab, cross combination.
Jones is breathing heavily.
Houston avoids the head kick by Jones.

No luck with that takedown attempt from Houston.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Benjamin Houston. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Houston is looking to clinch but Jones is avoiding it.
Houston throws a series of strikes that have Jones backpedaling.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Houston.
Horrible takedown by Houston or perhaps it was just good defense by Jones which made him look bad.
Jones shoots in but no luck this time.

Jones has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Houston regains guard immediately.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Houston tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Jones manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Jones scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

John Jones showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Jones. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.

Houston darts in and clinches Jones up against the cage.

Jones wanted to stand there but Houston had control of the position.
Houston is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

Houston has his feet on Jones's thighs here. He's pushed Jones off and worked for a very quick armbar from the bottom! He's flipped onto his stomach and he's cranking hard on the arm! Jones screams in pain and taps out! This one is all over!
