PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Adam Marshall (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Michael Mason (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mason comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Final Countdown kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! The key to victory for Adam Marshall has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Adam Marshall!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Michael Mason!
The judges for this bout are Donald Grub, James Atkins and Andrew Berry.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Marshall keeps the fight on the outside.
Marshall tries to clinch but Mason is having none of it.
Mason throws a push kick but Marshall slaps the foot to one side.
A punch combination from Marshall misses.
Mason tries to close the distance and clinch up but Marshall swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Mason slaps away a takedown attempt from Marshall, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Marshall misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Mason.
Mason tries to clinch but Marshall is having none of it.

Marshall fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Mason, pushing him back against the cage.
Marshall has had enough of the clinch but Mason keeps him there for the moment.
Mason jumps guard but Marshall stands there with Mason around his waist. Mason gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Marshall blocks an uppercut.
Marshall wants a takedown but no success here.
Mason is trying to force a seperation but Marshall has the dominant position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Marshall can't get the takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Adam Marshall. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Mason wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Marshall lands on the inside with an uppercut.

Mason manages to break the clinch.
Marshall leaves Mason with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Mason tries to close the distance and clinch up but Marshall swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Mason stuffs the takedown.

Mason feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Marshall not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Mason wants to stand but Marshall is controlling his posture from full guard.
Marshall wants to get back to his feet but Mason is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Mason wants to control from the top but Marshall keeps moving.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Michael Mason hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Mason blocks a head kick by Marshall.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Mason shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Marshall sprawls well. Marshall wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Mason gets slowly back to his feet.
Marshall tries to score a power double leg takedown but Mason sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Marshall somewhat.
Marshall bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Mason's head backwards.

Mason throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Marshall works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Mason pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Marshall is keeping the position for now.
Mason postures up in Marshall's guard and throws a big left but Marshall blocks it.
Mason looking to sit in guard and control but Marshall gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Mason is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Michael Mason dominated that round.
That's time! Marshall's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

and Mason decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Marshall's guard.
Mason seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Marshall isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Mason stacks Marshall on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Mason!

Mason is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Marshall is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Mason tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Mason has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Marshall manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Mason tries to pass to full mount but Marshall defends it.

Mason missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Mason working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Marshall trying to hold on to Mason's head to control him but Mason postures up.
Mason wants to take a breather but Marshall is having none of it.
Mason tries to pass to full mount but Marshall defends it.

Mason seems to be working for a kimura but Marshall defends the submission attempt.
Mason seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Mason prevents Marshall from improving his position.
Marshall is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Mason jumps into side control!

Mason decides to stand back up. Mason steps back and let's Marshall get back to his feet.
Mason shoots in but Marshall avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Mason is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Marshall's half guard.
Mason is breathing heavily.

Marshall looking for submissions off his back.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Mason stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.
Mason tries to close the distance and clinch up but Marshall swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Mason moves out of range as Marshall throws a body kick.
Marshall gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Mason counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Adam Marshall. That's going to take a lot out of him.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Mason jumps guard and drags Marshall to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Michael Mason showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. And we move into the final round!


Marshall throws a one two combo.

Mason closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Mason has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Marshall!
Mason can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Marshall is looking to escape.
Marshall wants to hold on but Mason pushes him away.

Marshall defends a rear naked choke attempt by controlling one of Mason's arms.
Mason doesn't have the hooks in and Marshall manages to turn into his guard.
Marshall won't allow Mason to sweep him here.
Mason is trying to keep Marshall in close.
Mason is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Marshall is looking to improve his position.
Mason tries to stand and escape but Marshall is controlling the position.
Marshall really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Mason stops Marshall from getting back to his feet.
Marshall wants to control but Mason is keeping busy.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Marshall is not content to let Mason control the position.

Mason is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Marshall defends it well.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Mason shoots in and drives through. Marshall sprawls well.
Adam Marshall has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Michael Mason.

Marshall closes the distance and clinches.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Mason has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Marshall uses from the top position.

Adam Marshall has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Michael Mason is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
