Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Lal Thomas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Damien OQuinn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Lal Thomas has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Lal Thomas!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Damien OQuinn!
The judges for this bout are Paul Gruel, Chris Saunders and Micheangelo Fripello.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
OQuinn avoids a punch combination nicely.
OQuinn dodges the punch combination from Thomas.
Thomas misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Thomas throws a head kick but OQuinn moves out of range.
OQuinn slaps away a takedown attempt from Thomas, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Thomas moves into the clinch.
Thomas has OQuinn pressed against the cage, preventing OQuinn from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
OQuinn wants to break free but Thomas has control.
OQuinn has had enough of the clinch but Thomas keeps him there for the moment.

Thomas gets control of OQuinn's arms and successfully pulls guard. Thomas will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Thomas thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
OQuinn stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Thomas swivels though and keeps the full guard.

OQuinn is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Thomas avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
OQuinn passes Thomas's left leg - he's now in half guard.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
OQuinn's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Thomas works his way to full guard. Good work.
OQuinn postures up in Thomas's guard and throws a big left but Thomas blocks it.
Thomas looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
OQuinn tries to free his leg and advance position but Thomas is retaining full guard.

OQuinn won't allow Thomas to sweep him here.

OQuinn seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
OQuinn must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
OQuinn stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Thomas swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Thomas shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts OQuinn as he jumps to the side.

OQuinn is trying to stand back up but Thomas is controlling him
Thomas wants to take a breather but OQuinn is having none of it.
OQuinn wants to get back to his feet.

OQuinn pushes Thomas off and gets back to his feet.

Thomas clinches up with OQuinn and pushes him back against the cage.
Thomas is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Lal Thomas. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Thomas keeps control of OQuinn as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

OQuinn thows a body shot but no joy.
Thomas shoots in and drives through. OQuinn sprawls well.
OQuinn dives in and grabs Thomas's left leg, looking for a takedown. Thomas pushes down on OQuinn's head and hops out.
OQuinn stuffs the takedown attempt from Thomas. Thomas gets slowly back to his feet.
OQuinn shoots for a takedown but Thomas saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
OQuinn tries to close the distance and clinch but Thomas swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Horrible takedown by Thomas or perhaps it was just good defense by OQuinn which made him look bad.
Thomas changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. OQuinn tries to avoid it but Thomas manages to keep hold of a leg and drag OQuinn to the ground. OQuinn escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Damien OQuinn showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Lal Thomas seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Thomas looks for the body kick but OQuinn saw that one coming.

Some bone on bone action there as OQuinn checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.

Thomas stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Thomas wants it to stay on the feet.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Thomas enables OQuinn to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Thomas manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

OQuinn uses his free foot to push down on Thomas's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Thomas.
