Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Brad Bennett (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jim Keats (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Bennett comes to the cage accompanied by Stemm - Face The Pain. Keats has chosen Pioneer of Metal as his entrance music. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Brad Bennett!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jim Keats!
The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Eliza Hachem and Hugh Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bennett avoids a punch combination nicely.
Keats misses with a wild combination.
Bennett connects with a good right hand that stumbles Keats. Keats circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Bennett blocks a jab.
Keats ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Bennett scores with a nice strike.
Keats throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Bennett.
Keats lands with a slapping head kick.


It looks like Brad Bennett has been cut.
Bennett scores with the left hand. Keats knows he should have avoided that one.

Keats tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Bennett counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

Keats fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Bennett, pushing him back against the cage.

Keats is pushing Bennett up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
Keats unloads a knee to the mid-section. Bennett lets out a prehistoric sounding urrrrgh.
Keats is trying to maintain a safe position but Bennett gets an underhook and turns Keats into the cage.
Keats tries a knee to the head but Bennett blocks it.
A nice left hand lands by Bennett.
Bennett tries to break the clinch but Keats is controlling the position.
Bennett lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Keats backwards.
Keats is pressed up against the cage. Bennett has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Keats down to the mat. Keats avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Bennett throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Keats on the side of the head.
Keats tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Bennett paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Bennett looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Keats has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Bennett can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Keats takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.

and Keats counters with a good, hard body kick but Bennett shrugs it off.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Bennett feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Keatss jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Bennett throws a hook to the side of Keats's head but Keats sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Bennett fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Keats pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Bennett back to the cage. Keats follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.
Bennett connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Bennett throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Keats stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

No joy there for Bennett, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Keats takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.

Bennett feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Keats is rocked!
Bennett throws a sloppy strike and Keats uses the opportunity to reverse the position! A bit of a scramble here and Keats has ended up in Bennett's guard.
Keats is still in real trouble! Can Bennett finish him?
Keats's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Keats seems to have recovered his senses.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Bennett is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
