PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Vincent Bartlett (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gay Al (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Bartlett comes into the arena with Discipline (AE01) blaring out of the sound system. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Vincent Bartlett!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Gay Al!
The judges for this bout are Seu Braga, Emerson Jorge and Felipe Paraventi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Al lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Bartlett is looking to clinch.
Bartlett tries to clinch up but Al circles away and keeps his distance.
Al closes this distance looking for a takedown but Bartlett circles away.
Bartlett fails with an attempt to clinch.
Al swats away the attempt to clinch by Bartlett.
Al misses with a double jab.
Al misses the shot to the body.
Bartlett avoids the head kick by Al.
Vincent Bartlett seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Bartlett doesn't manage to clinch there - Al circles away.
The fight stays on the outside here - Bartlett looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

and Bartlett counters with a shoot takedown. Al fights it but they end up in guard.
Bartlett wants to get up but he can't break Al's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Bartlett wants to control from the top but Al keeps moving.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Al not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Bartlett would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

Al looking for a guillotine here but Bartlett defends easily.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Al throws a leg kick but Bartlett sees it coming and moves out of range.
Al throws a head kick that misses.
Bartlett tries to close the distance and clinch but Al swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Bartlett wants to clinch up but Al keeps it at a distance.
Al shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Bartlett as he avoids it easily.

and Al counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Al.
Al prevents Bartlett from getting back to his feet.
Al won't allow Bartlett to sweep him here.

Bartlett is looking to stand up but Al isn't so interested in that idea.
Bartlett is pulling down on Al's head. It's preventing any offense from Al, at least for the moment.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Al shoots for a double leg takedown but Bartlett sprawls well. He's pushed Al's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

and Al counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Al postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Bartlett is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Al, into his guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Bartlett tries to stand but Al is controlling from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Gay Al will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Bartlett moves in looking to clinch but Al pushes him off.
Bartlett wants to clinch but Al slips to the side
and Al makes the exchange count by landing a cracking kick to the body. Bartlett really felt that one!
Bartlett fails with the takedown

and Al counters with a single leg into guard. Bartlett didn't expect that.
Al lands a couple of elbows.
Al is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Al is working Bartlett over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Al wants to improve his position but Bartlett is controlling well.

Al is looking for a sweep. Bartlett is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Al wants to pass the guard but Bartlett is keeping the position.

Al postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Al tries for a takedown but Bartlett sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
A head kick by Al misses
and Bartlett counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Al is lucky that one didn't land flush.

Bartlett closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Al to the mat! Al manages to get full guard.
Bartlett has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Gay Al showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Bartlett.

Al changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Bartlett fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Bartlett shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.

Bartlett throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Al blocks it with crossed arms.

and Al counters with a single leg into guard. Bartlett didn't expect that.
Bartlett utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Al won't allow Bartlett to get back to his feet.

Al is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Al not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Al is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Bartlett is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Gay Al comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Al winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
