PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Shannon Khoury (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Aaron Average (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Aaron Average told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Average pushes Khoury up against the cage in a clinch.

Average's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Khoury throws a hook to the side of Average's head but Average sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Average moves out of range of the body kick from Khoury.
Average displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Khoury throws out the jab.

Average shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Khoury is looking to improve his position.
Average trying to control from half guard but Khoury is working away.
Average controlling the action here.
Khoury moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Average stands and throws Khoury's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Average tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Average has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Khoury tries to buck Average off but Average is having none of it.

Average tries for a kimura but Khoury is defending well.

Average decides to stand up, so the ref orders Khoury to his feet.
Khoury avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
A looping hook to the body misses from Khoury. Average does a little dance to reset his feet.
Khoury gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Average slips a jab from Khoury.

Average looking to score a takedown here. Khoury is defending well but Average drives through and ends up in Khoury's guard.
Khoury utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Khoury trying to keep a closed guard but Average is proving a slippery customer.

Average decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Khoury, up you get!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Average closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Average lands in his opponent's guard.

Khoury looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Average wants to get up but he can't break Khoury's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Average stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Average tries to clinch up but Khoury circles away and keeps his distance.
Average shoots in looking for a takedown. Khoury tries to sprawl out of it but Average keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Khoury manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Khoury cracks Average with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.

Khoury misses with an uppercut.
Khoury jabs at Average's body.
Average misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Khoury throws a big shot that misses.

Average shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Khoury manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Khoury wants to control but Average passes easily into half guard.
Average tries to stand but his arm is trapped.

Average is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Khoury is just riding it out for now. Average eventually gives up the hold.
Khoury regains full guard. Nicely done.

Khoury escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Average gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Average lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Average pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Khoury is keeping the position for now.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Khoury is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Average wanted to stand there but Khoury had control of the position.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Khoury has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Average doesn't defend quickly enough and Khoury has managed to lock this one up! Can Average escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Khoury on a fantastic submission victory.
