PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Big Bastard (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Fred Burton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Burton has chosen Carcass - Keep on Rotting in the Free World as his entrance music. Both these guys are coming into the fight with injuries so let's see if that has a bearing on the fight. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

25 - 14 - 0, fighting out of London, Big Bastard!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

24 - 22 - 1, fighting out of London, Fred Burton!
The judges for this bout are Donald Grub, Paul Tew and Richard Clark.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
The fight stays on the outside here - Bastard looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Burton looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
A punch combination from Burton misses.
Bastard tries to close the distance and clinch but Burton swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Burton dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Burton lands a body shot.
Bastard connects with a solid leg kick.
Bastard dives in and grabs Burton's left leg, looking for a takedown. Burton pushes down on Bastard's head and hops out.
Bastard misses with a takedown attempt
and Burton counters with a single leg into guard. Bastard didn't expect that.
Burton stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Bastard swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Bastard tries to land a sweep but no joy.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Big Bastard wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Burton misses with a body shot.
Bastard drives through with a takedown into guard.
Bastard loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Bastard trying to control but Burton is working from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Burton has his hands on Bastard's head, controlling the position.
Bastard missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Bastard throws a strike but Burton rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Bastard has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Burton has passed into side control.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Bastard gets back to half guard.

Bastard really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

That was a close round but I would say that Big Bastard will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Burton tests Bastard's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Bastard shoots in for a takedown but Burton shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Burton manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Bastard on his heels. He'll look to pass Bastard's guard now, I'm sure.
Bastard wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Burton is now in half guard.
Bastard is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Burton jumps into side control!
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Fred Burton showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!
Bastard tries to score a power double leg takedown but Burton sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Bastard somewhat.
Burton looks to throw the jab but Bastard is out of range.
Bastard shoots in but no luck this time.
Burton scores with a one two! Bastard had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
Burton throws a shot from downtown. Bastard moves away and avoids it.
Bastard takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Bastard avoids the body shot from Burton.
Bastard will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Big Bastard. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Bastard tries to clinch there but Burton circles away.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Burton pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Bastard back to the cage. Burton follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.

Bastard avoids the body shot from Burton.
Bastard throws a wild body kick that Burton sees coming a mile off.
Bastard connects with a solid leg kick.
Burton scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
Bastard misses with a leg kick.
Burton sizes up Bastard with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.

Bastard throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Burton's waist but Burton gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Bastard off to one side.
Bastard steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Burton.
Bastard swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
No luck for Burton with that takedown attempt.

Burton will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Bastard drives through and clinches with Burton against the cage.

Bastard tries to pull guard but Burton won't allow it.
Burton breaks from the clinch.
Bastard tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Burton counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.

Burton sizes up Bastard with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
Burton throws a body punch but Bastard moves out of range.
Burton misses with a hook. Bastard ducked under it nicely.
Bastard moves in looking to clinch but Burton pushes him off.
Bastard throws a leg kick
and Burton counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Bastard throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Burton was covering up waiting for the punch and Bastard finishes the takedown easily into guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Bastard throws a big elbow that misses.
Burton utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Bastard looking to sit in guard and control but Burton gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Burton prevents Bastard from getting back to his feet.
Bastard is trying to keep Burton in close.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Big Bastard.
Bastard tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Burton paws at him with a jab and circles away.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Burton throws a series of punches but Bastard moves out of range.
Bastard misses with a takedown
and Bastard takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Big Bastard.
I think Bastard has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
