Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Nero Zero! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Samir Vasquez! The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Jack Bonds and Timothy Bukovac.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Zero doesn't succeed with the takedown and Vasquez counters with a crisp right hand that drops Zero! Vasquez lets Zero back up to his feet, looking for a finish!
It looks like Nero Zero has been cut. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Vasquez closes the distance and clinches up with Zero, looking for a takedown. Vasquez pushes Zero against the cage but Zero circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Zero looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Vasquez! The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace. Zero is working for a guillotine from mount but Vasquez frees his head quite easily.
Zero goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Vasquez turns into him and now he's in Zero's guard.
Vasquez looking to pass the guard. Vasquez sitting in guard, not really doing much. Vasquez wants to pass the guard but Zero is keeping the position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's one minute gone in the round. Zero has his foot on Vasquez's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Vasquez works his way back into a safe position though. Zero utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Zero has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Vasquez is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Zero. Zero is looking to regain half guard here but Vasquez keeps moving and retains side control. Vasquez staying calm. Vasquez tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it. Zero is looking for a sweep.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Vasquez cracks Zero with an elbow. That is naaassty. Zero gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard. Zero tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Vasquez has advanced to mount. Uh oh. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Vasquez lands a big shot there that rocks Zero but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Vasquez cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Zero is rocked! Vasquez tries to control but Zero wriggling away. Vasquez looking for a guillotine from mount but Zero is having none of it. Vasquez drops a big elbow. That's hurt Zero! More shots from Vasquez and the ref steps in! The fight is over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:57 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Samir Vasquez!
