Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
17 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Brian Dawkins! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
19 - 13 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Ben Harper! The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Alec Ball and Yves DeLean.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Harper looks to clinch and Harper takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Harper moves into the clinch. Dawkins is trying to break the clinch but Harper is controlling him. A frustrated look appears on Dawkins's face as he tries to break the clinch. Harper keeps control of Dawkins as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks. Dawkins can't break the clinch.
Dawkins pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Harper wants to clinch and Dawkins connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. Dawkins throws a body kick despite being completely out of range and Dawkins takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Dawkins blocks a head kick by Harper.
Harper takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Harper fails with an attempt to clinch.
Harper clinches. Harper looking to throw knees to the head but Dawkins is blocking nicely.
Harper softening up his opponent with strikes, against the cage. Harper with an attempt at a knee that misses.
Dawkins breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
That's one minute gone in the round. Harper closes the distance looking to clinch and Dawkins counters with a nice uppercut. Harper clinches. Harper has Dawkins pressed against the cage, preventing Dawkins from circling away and getting back to striking at range. Dawkins is trying to force a seperation but Harper has the dominant position. Dawkins is trying to break free. Harper lands a nice uppercut. Harper can't find room to land a body shot as Dawkins controls the action.
A knee to the head by Harper.
Harper lands a shoulder strike. Harper lands a nice elbow. Harper prevents Dawkins from breaking the clinch. Harper with an attempt at a knee that misses.
Dawkins breaks from the clinch.
Harper tries to clinch up. Harper looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup. Dawkins looks like he's trying to stand up.
Harper slows the pace down in half guard.
The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Ben Harper. Harper closes the distance but Dawkins moves to the side and Harper takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Harper shoots in for a takedown but Dawkins shows good takedown defense. Dawkins drops Harper with a big left hand! Harper is injured, injured bad! Dawkins jumps in and finished him with strikes! The fight is over!
