Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jimmy Conway (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hoyt Jurgensen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jurgensen has chosen Peter, Paul & Mary - If I Had A Hammer as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
8 - 30 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jimmy Conway! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
13 - 12 - 0, fighting out of New York, Hoyt Jurgensen! The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, Alyssa Summers and Lou da Vinci.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Jurgensen dips down and scores with a jab to the body. Jurgensen scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon. Jurgensen working the ground and pound from side control. Jurgensen is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Conway has escaped the position, nice work there. Jurgensen throws an elbow but Conway slips to the side and avoids it well. Jurgensen tries for a kimura but Conway is defending well. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Jurgensen working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
Jurgensen taking a breather here. Jurgensen is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Conway has escaped the position, nice work there. Jurgensen has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
That's one minute gone in the round. Conway takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Jurgensen grinds an elbow into Conway's temple. Jurgensen is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Conway knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Conway knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Jurgensen on the ground. Jurgensen working away diligently from side control. It looks like Jimmy Conway has been cut. Jurgensen in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows. Conway takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better. Jurgensen wants to control but Conway is keeping him busy. Jurgensen is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Conway is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Jurgensen is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Conway knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Conway tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Jurgensen wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Jurgensen looks up at the clock and then as Conway takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Jurgensen smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Jurgensen is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Conway has escaped the position, nice work there. Jurgensen lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face. Jurgensen scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Conway to see if he's OK. Conway takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
Conway is rocked!
Jimmy Conway's cut is getting worse. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Jurgensen working the head with strikes. Oh Conway is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! Jurgensen is working to tighten is grip on Conway's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Conway has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Jurgensen is really squeezing tight and eventually Conway passes out! Jurgensen breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Hoyt Jurgensen! Hoyt Jurgensen was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
