Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Mike Child (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jarppi Huhtis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jarppi Huhtis will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Mike Child!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jarppi Huhtis!
The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, Donatello Bradman and Steve Erwin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Huhtis stuffs the takedown attempt from Child. Child gets slowly back to his feet.
A nice inside leg kick there by Child. That's going to slow Huhtis down.

Child shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

Child is looking for a kimura but Huhtis is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Child to get the leverage.
Huhtis wants to get back to full guard.
Huhtis is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Huhtis gets full guard.

Child thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Child seems to be working for a kimura but Huhtis defends the submission attempt.
Child wants to pass the guard but Huhtis is defending well.

Child wants to lay and pray for a moment but Huhtis keeps working.
Child wants to free his trapped foot but Huhtis is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Huhtis pushes Child off looking to stand but Child dives back in and keeps control.

Child is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Huhtis knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Child is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Huhtis is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Huhtis regains half guard.
Huhtis tries to roll over but Child keeps him under control.

Child wants to work for an arm triangle but Huhtis is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Child stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Huhtis to get to his feet.

Huhtis drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Huhtis stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Child swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Huhtis working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Huhtis must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Child is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Huhtis stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Child swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Child bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Huhtis's guard.

Huhtis pulls Child in close to prevent any damage.
Huhtis manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Child manages to get himself to full guard.
Huhtis landing with the ground and pound.
Child might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Child looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Child bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Huhtis's guard.

Child has gone for a leg lock! Huhtis slips out almost immediately though and dives into Child's guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Mike Child will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Child tries for a takedown but Huhtis circles away easily

and Huhtis decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Child's guard.
Child could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Child is looking for a triangle but Huhtis pushes his legs off easily.

Mike Child overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Huhtis wants to control from the top but Child keeps moving.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Child has his foot on Huhtis's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Huhtis works his way back into a safe position though.

Child had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Huhtis is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Child Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Huhtis's back instead.

Huhtis manages to reverse the position and now he's in Child's guard. Nice work there by Huhtis.
Child thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.

Huhtis wants to control from the top but Child keeps moving.
Huhtis lands a couple of digs.

Child escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Huhtis gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Child gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Child has hold of Huhtis's hands but Huhtis slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Huhtis prevents Child from improving his position.

The fighters are battling for position here. Child manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Jarppi Huhtis showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Child doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Huhtis counters with a straight right hand.
Huhtis throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Huhtis drops a shoulder and throws an uppercut that cracks Child right on the button. Child goes down! Huhtis follows him to the mat and finishes the job with more strikes! Huhtis gets the win via TKO!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:18 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Jarppi Huhtis!
