PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jack Slater (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cristain Garnaca (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Slater might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Terminator Theme. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jack Slater! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Cristain Garnaca! The judges for this bout are Joseph Jones, John Kavanagh and Russell Pearce.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Slater fails with an attempt to clinch.
Nice jab there from Slater. Nice sprawl there from Garnaca as Slater shoots in. Garnaca has his takedown stuffed and Slater connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. Slater has his takedown stuffed and Garnaca counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. Garnaca works his way into side control. Garnaca tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Garnaca has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for leaving it all in the cage! Garnaca working away. Slater is looking for a sweep.
That's one minute gone in the round. Garnaca is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Slater knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Garnaca working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter. Garnaca swings around for an armbar but Slater sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Garnaca's guard. Garnaca looks gassed! Slater trying to stand up but can't free himself from Garnaca's guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Garnaca trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from! Garnaca tries to land a sweep but no joy. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Garnaca is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Garnaca has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Slater can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Slater would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard. Garnaca manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Garnaca quickly switches position and commits to an armbar! It's a big risk for Garnaca but it's paid off an Slater is forced to tap! Nice work by Garnaca.
