Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Lauri Torni (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gomer Pyle (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Torni's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Gallowbraid - Ashen Eidolon. Pyle has chosen The Marines' Hymn as his entrance music. Gomer Pyle told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
23 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Lauri Torni! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
19 - 6 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, Gomer Pyle! The judges for this bout are Ben Zyskovitsi, Johanna Lukiainen and Matti Vanhoillinen.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Pyle closes the distance and clinches up with Torni, looking for a takedown. Pyle pushes Torni against the cage but Torni circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Pyle throws a quick inside leg kick. Pyle misses with the body kick and Torni counters with a good low kick that Pyle was not able to check. Torni chopping away at his opponent's legs.
Pyle shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat. It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup. Pyle trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Torni manages to land a sweep and now he's on top! Torni would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard. Torni trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful. Pyle wants to sweep but no luck.
That's one minute gone in the round. Torni is looking to stand up but Pyle won't let him. Pyle had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Torni defends it easily. Pyle is trying to control the position but Torni postures up. Torni wanted to stand there but Pyle had control of the position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Torni swinging wildly here.
Torni with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Pyle throws an off balance right hand
and Torni counters with a nice leg kick. Torni chopping away at his opponent's legs.
Torni has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Pyle throws a body punch but Torni moves out of range. Pyle scores with a decent looking hook. Torni tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him. Pyle swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Pyle changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Torni tries to avoid it but Pyle manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Torni to the ground. Torni escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Torni misses with a low kick as Pyle jumps back. Torni scores with a one two! Pyle had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes. A leg kick checked by Torni. Torni looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it. Pyle lands a nice hook to Torni's body. Torni takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes. Torni keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Torni scores with a slapping inside leg kick. Torni throws a shot from downtown. Pyle moves away and avoids it. Pyle closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Torni did well to prevent Pyle getting side control. Pyle lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt. Torni wants to get back to his feet. Pyle looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Torni wants to get back to his feet. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Pyle seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Pyle working the head and body with strikes. Pyle winds up and cracks Torni with a swinging punch to the side of the head. Pyle not landing any meaningful shots this time. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Gomer Pyle dominated that round. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.
Pyle changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Torni looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Pyle tries to land with some ground and pound but misses. Pyle throws an elbow but Torni slips to the side and avoids it well. Torni prevents Pyle from moving into mount. Pyle with the ground and pound but Torni regains half guard under the barage of strikes. Pyle missing with the ground and pound from half guard. Pyle is trying to control the action in half guard but Torni is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. Pyle is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Torni has managed to free his arm - good work. Pyle not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
That's one minute gone in the round. The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Pyle connects with a nice short shot to Torni's temple. Pyle throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Pyle sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Torni defending well though. Pyle thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Pyle not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. Torni is refusing to be controlled, as Pyle sits in half guard. Pyle working the head and body with strikes. Pyle lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears. Torni blocking the ground and pound attempt from Pyle. Pyle missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Torni wants to get back to his feet. Torni is refusing to be controlled, as Pyle sits in half guard. Pyle working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that. This has been an exciting period of action! Torni avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Pyle. Pyle wants to work for an arm triangle but Torni is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Pyle throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing Torni to regain full guard. Pyle wants to pass the guard but Torni is keeping the position. Pyle lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Pyle throws an elbow that misses. Torni uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Pyle's guard. Nice move by Torni! Torni tries to stand but Pyle is controlling from the bottom. Pyle looking to hit a scissor sweep but Torni is one step ahead there. Torni has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Pyle is proving hard to escape from. Pyle looking to control.
Torni wants to stand but Pyle has a closed guard, so he can't escape. Pyle is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Pyle has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Pyle is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. Torni gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent. Torni misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Pyle tries a head kick but it misses.
Pyle throws a sloppy head kick and Pyle takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Torni keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Torni misses with a low kick.
A jab from Pyle does it's job there. Pyle has a takedown stuffed. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Torni misses with a straight left. Pyle pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Lauri Torni is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Torni misses with a body shot.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Gomer Pyle showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!
Pyle throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Pyle shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Torni pinned against the cage. Torni gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Pyle looks to land a body kick but Torni moved away. Gomer Pyle seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Torni lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent. Torni throws a leg kick but Pyle sees it coming and moves out of range. Torni dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Pyle. That did some damage! A bone on bone clash there as Pyle blocks the leg kick.
Nice takedown defense from Torni. No joy for Pyle on that attempt. Pyle misses with a body shot.
Torni will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Pyle is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down Torni rather than just go for the knockout. Pyle takes a swing at Torni's ribcage but misses. Torni throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
Torni lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise. Torni throws a leg kick but Pyle sees it coming and moves out of range. Lauri Torni is winning the standup battle so far.
That's one minute gone in the round. Torni swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target. Torni throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land. Torni throws a low kick, looking for Pyle's leg but Pyle calmly moves out of range. Jab, jab by Pyle - just one landing. Pyle looks to land a combination. Torni sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots. Pyle throws a sloppy body shot
and Torni counters with a leg kick. Torni throws a feint and then finishes with a kick to the body. Pyle scores with a body shot.
Pyle manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Torni on his heels. He'll look to pass Torni's guard now, I'm sure. Pyle takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Pyle throws a strike but Torni rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Torni wants to stand but Pyle is controlling his posture from full guard. Pyle is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Torni defends well. Lauri Torni has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Torni tries to stand but Pyle is controlling from the bottom. Torni decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Pyle, up you get! Torni does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy. Torni throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Pyle fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Torni avoids it really well and circles away. Lauri Torni has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Gomer Pyle. Torni pivots, looking for a leg kick but Pyle is out of range and Torni settles back down. Torni tries to land a leg kick but Pyle saw it coming and moves away.
Torni takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Pyle loads up on a big right hand but Torni slips the punch. Torni throws a chopping leg kick but Pyle manages to avoid taking any serious damage. Pyle tries to score a power double leg takedown but Torni sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Pyle somewhat. Torni stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Pyle. Pyle uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Torni. Pyle closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Torni to the mat! Torni manages to get full guard. Pyle loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Pyle throws a big elbow that misses. Pyle throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Torni preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Pyle postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Pyle throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Torni works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Pyle throws an elbow that misses. Torni uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Pyle's guard. Nice move by Torni! Torni would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard. Gomer Pyle is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight. Gomer Pyle has got the better of the ground game so far. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Pyle is on top in guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Pyle wants to control from the top but Torni keeps moving. Pyle might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Torni kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Pyle looking to pass the guard.
And that's the end of the fight! Gomer Pyle comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. Well Pyle has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
